	Dialog Box [Devices, Connectors and Splices]

To access: Right-click a device, plug, jack, inline, ring terminal, or splice and select Share. Alternatively, select the object, and then press the space bar and enter Share.

Used to promote the selected object to be a shared object.

Objects

Field	Description
Shared Device tab, Shared Plug tab for non-modular connectors, Shared Receptacle tab for non-modular connectors, Shared Inline tab, Shared Ring Terminal tab, Share Dialog Box for Splices
Create New	Select to create a new shared object.
Name	Not displayed when promoting a shared inline. The name for the new shared object. The contents of this field are displayed in red if they are not unique within the project. If the name of the object being promoted was generated using advanced naming functionality and you want the name of the shared object to be treated as a generated name, select the Generated check box next to the Name field. Receptacle Name, Plug Name Displayed only when promoting a shared inline. The names for the jack and plug in the new shared inline. The contents of the Receptacle Name field are displayed in red if they are not unique within the project. If the name of the jack side or plug side of the inline being promoted was generated using advanced naming functionality and you want the name of the shared jack or plug to be treated as a generated name, select the Generated check box next to the Receptacle Name or Plug Name field.
Generated check boxes	Select to specify that a generated name should continue to be treated as a generated name. Only available if the name of the object being promoted was generated using advanced naming functionality. See Advanced Naming Functionality for more information about generated names.
Revision	Specifies the version of the shared object, permitting multiple updated versions of the same shared object to exist in the database. See also Creating a New Revision of a Shared Object.
Domains	Specifies which domains must be assigned on your user account to access and edit the shared object. See “Shared Objects and Domains” in the Capital Logic Designer User Guide.
Share Into	Select to make the object being promoted an instance of an existing shared object. Shared objects list Lists the all the existing shared objects of the same type as the object being promoted that exist in the project unless the object being promoted has a library part associated with it, in which case only objects with the same library part are listed, or unless the object being promoted is a splice that has a symbol associated with it, in which case only splices with the same symbol are listed. Note When promoting an inline only the jack side of existing shared inlines are listed.
Shared Plug tab for modular connectors, Shared Receptacle tab for modular connectors	Name The modular connector and its sub-components displayed in a tree. Read-only. Name Generated Select to specify that a name generated using advanced naming functionality should continue to be treated as a generated name. Only available for names generated using advanced naming functionality. See Advanced Naming Functionality for more information about generated names. Revision Specifies the version of the shared object, permitting multiple updated versions of the same shared object to exist in the database. See also Creating a New Revision of a Shared Object.
Associate Pins tab	Not displayed when promoting a splice or modular connector. Used to associate pins on the new instance of the shared object with the new shared object definition (when creating a new shared object) or the existing shared object definition (when sharing into an existing shared object). Caution In a multi-user session, the system retrieves pin availability information only when you first open the dialog box. If another user deletes pins or removes pin assignments while the dialog box is open, you must close and reopen it to see which pins are currently available. Pins that an association has not yet been created for are displayed in bold. The system displays a warning () if you are trying to share a device into an existing shared device where the source and target device side connectors have different part numbers. If you proceed with such sharing, the source objects attributes will be overwritten with those of the target object (part number and other part derived attributes and information). See Figure 219. Selected Instance list or Symbol list Lists the pins on the object being promoted. Shared Object list Lists the pins in the shared object definition of the new shared object that will be created (when creating a new shared object) or in the shared object definition of the existing shared object (when sharing into an existing shared object). Pins that can be associated with a pin in the Selected Instance list or Symbol list are displayed in bold; unrestricted pins are displayed in bold and italics. Pins that cannot be associated with a pin in the Selected Instance list or Symbol list are displayed with a gray background. Pins in the Shared Object list cannot be associated with a pin in the Selected Instance list or Symbol list when: The pin is reserved for use in a design other than the current design. The pin is an automatic pin placed on an instance of the shared object in another design and the current design is outside the active build list. The pin is already placed as a non-reference pin on an instance of the shared object in the current design and the “Disallow pin/port duplication within a design” project preference is selected.
Associate Pins tab (continued)	The pin was placed on an instance of the shared object in the current design as a non-reference pin and was deleted from object instance, or was converted to a reference pin and then deleted from the object instance, and the design has not been saved since the pin was deleted. The current design is in the active build list and the pin is an automatic pin that was placed on an instance of the shared object in a design that is not in the active build list and was deleted from the object instance, and that design has not been saved since the pin was deleted. See “Pin Reservation Status” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide for automatic, reserved, and unrestricted pins. Select a pin in the Selected Instance list or Symbol list, select the pin to associate it with in the Shared Object list, and then click Associate. Alternatively, click Associate All to automatically associate each of the pins in Selected Instance list or Symbol list with a pin in the Shared Object list. When you Associate All, if there are pins in the Selected Instance list or Symbol list that do not have pins in the Shared Object list that they can be associated with, a warning is displayed explaining that new pins will be created. Click OK to create new pins, or click Cancel. Note In Capital Logic Designer you cannot add a new pin to the shared object definition of a shared object that has a library part associated with it. (You can only edit Library Part definitions in Capital Component Manager.) Therefore, when sharing an object into an existing shared object that has a library part assigned, if the Associate All action would require the creation of new pins it cannot be performed and so the Associate All button is unavailable. Click New to add a new pin. The Add Shared Pins Dialog Box is displayed. Select a pin and click Delete to delete it or Rename to rename it. Unavailable when sharing into an existing shared object until an existing shared object has been selected in the Share Into shared objects list.
Pin Reservations tab	Not displayed when promoting a splice or modular connector. Lists pins with reservation status of Reserved or Automatic in the Automatic Reservations list. Lists pins with reservation status of Unrestricted in the Unrestricted Pins list. To change a pin’s reservation status to Unrestricted, select it in the Automatic Reservations list and click Add. To change the reservation status of all the pins to Unrestricted click Add All. To move a pin that you have just added to the Unrestricted Pins list to the Automatic Reservations list, select it and click Remove. To move all the pins you have just added to the Unrestricted Pins list to the Automatic Reservations list, click Remove All. Unavailable when creating a new shared object if no pins have been added to the object being promoted. Unavailable when sharing into an existing shared object if there are no pins in the existing shared object’s shared object definition.

Usage Notes

Example where the source and target device side connectors have different part numbers.

• Warning message is displayed in the dialog box.

• Tooltips display the part numbers of the affected device connector.

• Device connector cavity details display after the pin names.
