Harness Checks

This routine validates the harness design using best-practice design rule checks. You must run the checks after Composite Breakdown and Harness Engineering have been performed.

Note

Harness Processing supports the use of custom checks using the plugin architecture. Custom checks are delivered as a compiled plugin—written in Java or JavaScript—which is placed into the \plugins subdirectory of the Capital installation location. These plugins are loaded when the application is started, and can be inspected from within Capital Harness Designer. For more information about writing and loading custom checks, see the PluginDevelopment.pdf file located in the doc\plugin folder of your Capital installation.

Harness Check Warning Notes
Blank terminal material driver Identifies any connector, backshell, or device with no Terminal Material Driver specified Rerun Cavity Component Management.
Cavity component does not fit wire Checks for cavity and pin components (such as terminals or seals) that do not fit the wires to which they have been assigned
Cavity with plug or seal marked as “none” Identifies any connector or device where a plug/seal is present but their Plugs Required / Sealed attributes are set to false Example Text: Non-Plugged Connector “Connector 1” has a plug part "PlugLibPart1" Non-Sealed Connector “Connector 1” has a seal part "SealLibPart1" Check if the connector or device requires seals or plugs before investigating further using Cavity Component Management.
Center strip splice not on wire route Checks for wires for which a center strip has been specified at a splice that is not on the route of the wire Check the wire’s center strip definition and the location of the wire ends in the Edit Wires Dialog Box.
Component does not exist in housing definition Checks for any inconsistencies in the housing definitions of the components
Component not located on any bundle Checks for components or wires located at a node that is not connected to the any bundle configuration This case may be acceptable if the node is to receive components for tying up or packaging the harness.
Empty bundle Checks for bundles where no wire or multicore is routed
Invalid mandatory item selection Checks that the number of additional items currently on the harness matches the number of housing definition items with mandatory selection criteria Check the mandatory items specified in all components’ housing definitions in Capital Component Manager, rerun the option Select Mandatory Items and then rerun the Harness Processing.
Invalid wire path Check if Wire End2 is reachable from Wire End1 through the bundles and observing any through or not-through node constraints
Invalid wire route Checks for any invalid routing of wires or insulation. The Harness Checks Report will provide keys to any inconsistencies. No warnings should be ignored at this stage, as it will almost certainly lead to problems in the harness processing.
Library part without supplier number Checks for components with no supplier part number This can be fixed by entering supplier information in Capital Component Manager against the components listed.
Mismatched mated connectors and terminal material Checks any connector or device at which the selected terminals are not all of the same material The cause for this can be investigated using Cavity Component Management.
Multiple components at position Checks if there is more than one additional component occupying the same position
Multiple variant bundles Identifies if more than one variant length exists for the same bundle within a derivative.
Obsolete or invalid part number Checks for components with a status of Obsolete or are otherwise invalid. Components should only be used if they have a status of Current.
Option on object not applicable to design Checks for inconsistencies in the option expressions assigned to components versus those assigned to the design
Overlapping insulation layers with same layer number Identifies where layer orders cannot be determined because of overlapping insulation layers with the same layer number. The check runs on single derivative, FM, and PM designs only, and not on composite designs.
Plug and wire at the same cavity Checks for cavities that contain a cavity plug and a wire This can be fixed by rerunning the Harness Processing.
Position assigned does not match library definition Checks the position defined in the housing definition versus the position (additional component) on the harness.
Sealed and unsealed connectors Checks any connector, backshell, or device on the harness and specifies whether they are sealed or not
Tubes longer than bundles Identifies any tubes that are longer than the bundle to which they have been applied. Only applicable to tubes where you have manually overridden the system calculated tube length on the Add or Edit Insulation Layer Dialog Box or the Quick Tube Creator Dialog Box.
Tubes not fitting bundles Checks whether the total diameter of the wires running through a fixed tube exceeds the bore size of the tube If the total wire diameter does exceed the tube bore, either edit the insulation layer to select a larger-bored tube, or specify a selected tube to enable the system to select one of sufficient bore.
Unterminated wire end Checks for wires that have not had a terminal specified or automatically selected by the system Ensure that the component at which the wire is placed has a suitable terminal in its housing definition (in Capital Component Manager) and that a terminal material driver has been specified against either the connector, backshell, device, or the wire or wire end. See also Cavity Component Management. Wires terminating in cavities excluded from automatic selection in the Component Maintenance dialog box are not checked. Wire does not fit cavity Checks that a wire is capable of fitting in a cavity
Wire with zero strip length Checks for wires for which no strip length has been specified
