	Shared Devices and Connectors

You can edit the shared object definition (pins, pin reservations, associated symbols, and associated Capital Analysis models) of shared devices and connectors.

Consider the following restrictions and limitations when editing a shared device or shared connector:

• When a shared object is frozen you cannot edit its shared object definition in Capital Logic Designer (though in Capital Project Manager you can still change the Pin Reservation Status of the shared object’s pins), you cannot edit its library part association and you cannot edit the properties or attributes of it, or of its pins. However, you can still add new instances of the shared object to diagrams, change the appearance of instances of the shared object on diagrams, place pins that exist in the shared object definition onto instances of the shared object and remove pins from instances of the shared object. Shared Objects.

• If your user account has the Frozen Shared Object Pin Attributes/Properties permission, you can edit the attributes/properties of frozen shared object pins that have not been placed on a design that is set to a release level that does not allow design changes (that is, does not have the Design Changes release level behavior). See “Permissions” in the Capital Access Manager User Guide and “Release Level Behaviors” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide. The Stud attribute of a pin cannot be edited for pins that have been placed on a design that is open elsewhere. See Stud Pins.

• If you are running Capital Logic Designer in multi-user mode, you can only edit the shared object definition of a shared object if you have exclusive access to a design. See Multi-User

			Caution 
				In a multi-user session, the system retrieves pin
					availability information only when you first open the Shared dialog boxes.
					If another user deletes pins or removes pin assignments while the dialog box
					is open, you must close and reopen it to see which pins are currently
					available.

• You can assign sub-connectors to positions on a shared modular connector using the Modular tab. See Edit Shared Dialog Boxes.

• Before you commit to sharing an object (to create a new shared object or instance of an existing shared object) or to making certain types of changes to a shared object that cannot be undone, a message is displayed to confirm if you want to continue. Creating or editing shared objects can cause changes across many designs in a project. If you are not sure that you want to continue, click Cancel. If you do decide to continue and do not want the message dialog box to display again, select “Don’t show again” before clicking Share, Share Into or Save.
