Fixture Constraint Dialog Box

To access: Press Space Bar and enter Define Fixture Constraint. Click Add Constraint to open the Constraint Selection window.

Used to set rules and constraints that will control how formboard fixtures are populated onto a diagram following the use of the Automatically Place Fixtures facility.

Select the appropriate constraint template and define its parameters by amending the highlighted fields. See also “Fixture Placement and Deletion Constraints”.

In addition to the standard parameters available for fixture placement, there are a number of specific parameters that enable bundle scoping and positioning.

For all Fixture Arc Placement and Fixture Segment Placement based constraints this is:

  • Bundle Scope Parameter This parameter allows you to control the scope of bundles considered during fixture placement. The values are: All The default parameter for new constraints The rules for determining if a bundle matches the selected scope are as follows:

Internal Examines both bundle end nodes and if both nodes connect to two or more bundles (that is they have junctions at both ends), this will be considered an internal bundle.

Connector Examines both bundle end nodes and if one node only is a junction node and the other is a bundle end (that is only connected to one bundle), it will be deemed a connector bundle.

For the Fixture Arc Placement at intervals and Fixture Segment Placement at intervals based constraints this is:

  • From Parameter Use to control the direction and positioning of bundles during fixture placement. The values are: Junction
  • the default parameter for new constraints Note Junction replaces the old Start Point parameter. Any existing constraints using Start Point automatically change to use Junction.

The rules for determining if a bundle matches the selected scope are as follows:

  • Center Point

  • Center Offset

  • Connector - starts placement of fixtures from the Connector end of the bundle Note Fixture placement constraint settings are preserved through bundle rotation actions including Rotate Harness Section and Edit Arc Segment.

For Fixture Placement Segment at Offset based constraints, where the Bundle Scope parameter is set to Connector, this is:

  • From Parameter Use to set the end of the connector bundle (see “Bundle Scope Parameter”), from which any offset is calculated. The values are: Start - the junction end of the connector bundle.

End - the connector end of the connector bundle.

This constraint allows the placing of fixtures onto specified components and the setting of any associated fixture part numbers.

  • Component Parameter This parameter allows you to specify the component group to place the fixture at. Choose from: Clip

  • Value Parameter This parameter allows you to specify the part number for the fixture. Select one of the following options and specify the value to use: Literal - Specify the part number to be associated with the fixture.

Attribute - Specify the name of an attribute belonging to the component group. The attribute's value is used as the library part number to be associated with the fixture.

Property - Specify the name of a property belonging to the component group. The property value is be used as the library part number to be associated with the fixture.
