Auto Layout Settings Dialog Box
To access:
Click the Settings button in the New Harness Diagram Dialog Box.
Click the Auto Layout Settings action on the Home ribbon.
Used to configure how the system will orthogonally layout the harness.

| Backbone discovery method | Defines how the backbone of the harness is identified, you can choose to tailor the calculation according to the style of drawing you prefer: By largest diameter The bundle with the largest diameter is selected, then the next largest, then the next, and so on, until the ends of the backbone are located (no more bundles of any diameter can be added to the backbone). By longest path The backbone is defined as the longest branch, determined by selection of the longest possible sequence of bundles between two end nodes (nodes with only a single bundle attached). Subsequent takeout backbones are calculated in the same way, with the longest branch from the primary backbone to an end node being determined. Note The “By longest path” method is computationally intensive and scales geometrically with the size of the harness. It may take several minutes to complete this calculation on very large harnesses (thousands of bundles). |
| Graphical bundle length adjustment | The following options specify the type of algorithm used when interpolating bundle lengths, as well as the limits within which bundle lengths can be displayed: Proportional Interpolates bundle lengths based on a linear relationship with the true 3D bundle length. This option ensures that the relative proportions of bundle lengths are preserved, producing a more accurate representation of the bundle configuration. Smoothed Interpolates bundle lengths based on a logarithmic relationship with the true 3D bundle length. This option reduces the variation between the longest and shortest bundle lengths, producing more uniform bundle configuration. Change shortest length Specifies the smallest computed length at which a bundle can be displayed. To impose a minimum length, first select the option, and then enter the length. Optional. Change longest length Specifies the largest computed length at which a bundle can be displayed. To impose a maximum length, first select the option and then enter the length. Optional. |
| X / Y scaling | Specifies the horizontal / vertical extent of the bundle configuration as a proportion of 100% scale. Enter a value from 0 to 1, with 1 being full scale. Note If you apply scaling to a full scale diagram, bundles are created as flex bundles, see Bundle Overview. Mandatory |
| Junction fan out angle | Where more than two take-out bundles exist at a node, this value is used to define a radial zone fan-out, applied to either side of the parent backbone, within which subsequent take-outs are drawn. By default, the first two take-outs are drawn at 90 degrees to the parent backbone; subsequent take-outs are drawn, in a pattern that alternates to either side of both the parent backbone and the initial two take-outs, within the fan-out angle, which extends to either side of the initial take-outs by half the value entered here. | Preserve bundle sequences | Preserves bundle positions at junction nodes with Bundle Junction Sequence configured, except where bundles are part of a loop. |
