Adding a Multicore From Capital Component Manager
and Adding New Component Conductors
You can add a library multicore to a diagram and then add new conductors to the multicore.
Alternatively, you can add library multicore and add existing conductors to it. See Adding a Multicore From Capital Component Manager and Adding Existing Component Conductors.
Prerequisites
- The multicore to add must already be created using Capital Component Manager. See “Multicore Wire” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide.
Procedure
Press the space bar and enter Add Library Multicore to display the Part Selection Dialog Box. Alternatively, click the Parts tab to access the Parts Browser.
In the search fields at the top of the dialog box / browser, select a part number type from the dropdown list and type the library part number of the multicore you require in the text box. Alternatively, click the Search parts using criteria specified button () to display a list of parts matching your search criteria.Tip You can use the Filter to reduce the number of parts that are displayed when you search.
To create the multicore:In the Part Selection dialog box, select the multicore and click Insert.
In the Parts Browser, double‑click the part or right‑click it and select Create Multicore.
The multicore is added to the Multicores folder in the Design Browser. The conductors in the multicore are dimmed, indicating that they have not yet been added to the diagram.
- For each conductor in the multicore:Right-click the conductor in the Design Browser and select Add as Wire or Add as Net. Click to place the first end of the conductor. To define sections of the conductor, click where you want each section to end. To place the end point of the conductor, double-click or click and then right-click and select Commit.
Results
The conductors are added to the diagram. In the Design Browser the conductor names change to the names assigned to the conductors on the diagram and are no longer dimmed.
The multicore or overbraid indicators are attached to the conductors on the diagram.
Note
Note the following:
By default indicators span the space between the conductors in the multicore/overbraid. If the conductors in the multicore/overbraid are too far apart the indicators will be split. You can use the Toggle Indicators action to change whether or not indicators are split. See Toggling Multicore and Overbraid Indicators.
You must add a shield termination to shielded multicores and to overbraids. If the library part does not have a shield termination defined, you must right‑click an inner core in the Design Browser and select Designate Shield to designate one of the inner cores as the shield termination. You can then connect a shield termination to one of the indicator hookups, in the usual way. See Adding a Shield Termination.
You can use the Assign Library Multicore Dialog Box to change which inner core in the library part definition is associated with which conductor in the design.
