Insertion Points and Hidden Content

An insertion point separates hidden content from visible content. It is used as a reference point on formboard diagrams to indicate the position at which a pre-assembled section of the harness must be inserted. The same position is indicated on the composite formboard diagram and on the child (derivative or module) formboard diagram.

Insertion Point Behavior

When you add an insertion point and select the required bundle(s):

• The selected content is hidden on the formboard diagram (it is not deleted).

• Any components on the hidden section are dimmed in the Harness Design browser. Components such as bundles, insulations, wires and so on, which traverse the insertion point and may be partially hidden, are not dimmed in the browser tree.

• For wires that pass from a hidden to a non-hidden section, wire highlighting stops at the insertion point.

• If you use the zoom selected functionality (from the Harness Design browser) for an object that is on a hidden section of the harness, the system zooms to the insertion point node.

You can only add insertion points to structure or reference nodes. If you need to hide harness structure and content from a non-structure node location (for example, a precise mid-bundle point, “x” mm from a take out) you can add a dimension to the required point and use that node to accurately add an insertion point.

Any design changes you make to an associated non-full scale diagram, do not display on the full scale diagram if they are in a hidden area.

You cannot select a bundle, that is part of a loop, as a hidden section.

If a hidden bundle on your full scale diagram is made part of loop on its associated non-full scale diagram, the hidden bundle becomes visible.

You can add Insertion Points and hide harness structure on merged and combined formboards. However the system does not propagate existing Insertion Points and hidden structure from member diagrams to the merged/combined formboard. See Capital Formboard Manager Flows.

Insertion points and hidden / unhidden content are included with any harness import or export data.

The message area on the Status Bar, which runs along the bottom of the screen, displays instructional and dynamic tool tips relevant to the actions you are currently performing.

Composite Parent Harness

By default, to ensure that insertion points are at the same location on both parent and child harnesses, you can only manually add insertion points to your composite / parent harness diagram. Composite / modular breakdown processing automatically adds insertion points to derivative / child designs.

Child Designs

If you need to manually add insertion points directly on a derivative / child designs (for example, when multilevel nested production modules are defined, and each level has separate formboard to build the sub-assembly), you must select the Allow child design diagram insertion point addition System Preference. See Project Preferences for Capital Harness Designer and Capital Harness Designer Modular Designs for more details.

Fixtures

Any fixtures, located on bundles that you hide, are automatically deleted from the diagram and the Harness Design browser. They are not re-added if you unhide / delete the insertion point.

They are not included on any fixture report that you may export.
