Usage Examples - Stacked

Pins

These usage examples demonstrate how to create a stacked pin, how to view the composition of the stacked pin, how to view the list of conductors that terminate at the stacked pin and how to display the name of the stacked pin on the diagram.

Note

Each of the following examples builds on the previous one.

Creating

a Stacked Pin

This example uses a device, DEV1, that has five pins: +28V DC, GND, DATA OUT, DATA IN and CTRL. The following steps show how to create a stacked pin using pins +28V DC and GND.

  1. Right-click pin +28V DC and select Create Stack. Figure 74: Creating a Stacked Pin - Step 1 (1) The cursor changes to and a red square () indicates the current target grid point. Circles indicate locations on the object where you can place the stack and dotted gray lines/boxes indicate locations outside the object where you can place the stack.   2. Hover over the pin below the +28V DC pin. The cursor changes to . Figure 76: Creating a Stacked Pin - Step 2

  3. Click to place the stack. Pin +28 DC is added to newly-created stacked pin “1 of 5” (the name denoting that this stacked pin contains one of the five pins on this device) and is no longer displayed. Net COND1 has been placed in the automatically created highway HW1. Figure 77: Creating a Stacked Pin - Step 3

  4. Right-click pin GND and select Add to Stack, and then select the stacked pin.

Pin GND is added to stack and is no longer displayed. Stacked pin “1 of 5” has been renamed “2 of 5” denoting that this stack now contains two of the five pins on this device. Net COND2 has been added to highway HW1.

Viewing

the Conductors in the Highway

This example shows how to view the conductors that are routed into a highway that interfaces with a stacked pin.

  1. Right-click highway HW1 and select View Usage. The Usages Dialog Box displays and shows that the other ends of nets COND1 and COND2 are connected to pins on device DEV2.

Viewing

the Composition of a Stacked Pin

This example shows how to view the composition of a stacked pin.

  1. Right-click the stack of pins “2 of 5” and select Edit Stack. The Edit Stack Dialog Box is displayed. Pins +28V DC and GND are shown in the Select Pins table.

Displaying

the Name of a Stacked Pin on a Diagram

This example shows how to display name of a stacked pin on a diagram.

  1. Select the stack of pins. Press the space bar and enter Styles, and then select Home > Styles from the Search Ribbon dropdown list. The Style Sets Dialog Box is displayed.

  2. In the browser tree navigate to the stacked pin and open the Decorations node. Select the Composite Texts node, and then click the Add button. The Edit Composite Text Dialog Box is displayed.

  3. In the Attributes list select Name, and then click the Add button. The Name attribute is added to the Entries list. Tip You can display an alternative name by entering it in the Text box and adding it to the Entries list.

  1. Click OK.

The stacked pin’s name is displayed next to it on the diagram.
