Combining

Harness Levels into One

You can combine harness levels for a harness. The resulting harness supports vehicle models and options from the original ones. It is not possible to combine harness levels with different part numbers.

Note

Combining and merging harness levels are different actions. Combining harness levels creates a new parent level that contains the combined option selections of the combined levels. The combined levels also appear under the combined level.

Merging harness levels allows you to take the vehicle models, option definitions, take rate, and maximum complexity from one level (possibly a brand new one) and apply those to another (possibly an older, existing level). The action removes the ‘new’ level. You may want to do this in a change management process where you want to re-use an existing level (with an existing part number) by merging a new level (possibly with new options) into it. See Merging Two Harness Levels into One.

Procedure

  1. Select a harness in the Design Browser (Design tab).

  2. Either:Right-click the selected harness, choose Define Harness Levels.

Press Space Bar and enter Levels. Select the Automate > Complexity > Levels ribbon action.

The Define Harness Levels Dialog Box displays.

  1. Click the parent level in the Levels table with which you want to combine another harness level and click “Combine two Levels into one” .The Combine Levels for Dialog Box displays.

  2. Add the levels that you want to combine with the parent harness level to the Selected window and click OK.

  3. The child levels display below the parent level in the Levels table and a flipper allows you to hide or show the referred harness levels.Any vehicle models and options that are supported by the referred harness levels are now supported by the parent harness.
