Defining View From Direction for a Node Clip Grommet or Other

Component

You can define the “view from” direction for components or nodes placed at mid-bundle and at junctions. This is applicable to clips, grommets, and other components (jointly referred to as “components” in this topic), as well as nodes.

The “view from” direction is saved as an attribute of the component or node. You can use this attribute (View From Node) to add graphical symbols, using styling, that relate to the required “view from” direction. See the Visibility section of the Styling a Symbol Decoration topic in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide for further details.

Procedure

Right-click the required component or node, and select Set View From Direction.The cursor changes to .
Depending on the type of node the component is located at, either:For reference (mid-bundle) node components, move the cursor over a segment on either side of the component to determine the node being “viewed from”.

For structure (junction) node components, move the cursor over one of the attached bundles to determine the node being “viewed from”.

Note The cursor changes to if you hover over an invalid bundle or segment.

Confirm the required segment or bundle by clicking the desired position.Note During Composite Breakdown, the “View From” node will be modified per derivative, if the “View From” node no longer exists. If the original node was a junction node, and that node is being removed, then the adjacent structure node will used in its place. Where the node was originally an end node, the “View From” node will be set to null (removed).

Results

For any reference node components configured at Step 2, the view from node is set as the node on the opposite end of the segment
For any structure (bundle end and junction) node components configured at Step 2, the view from node is set as the node on the opposite end of the selected bundle.
The view from node is saved in the “View From Node” attribute on the edit component or node dialog box, as shown for a clip in Figure 240. Figure 240: View From Node Attribute On A Clip
