Preserving
Imported Connectivity and Using Assisted Placement
You can import connectivity from other MCAD designs and retain the connectivity of the design objects as it was originally specified, making it easier to create an accurate representation of the imported design. Imported connectivity objects are automatically added to the Design Browser ready for placing on a diagram. The Assisted Placement functionality displays shadow graphics of the imported connections as you are placing an imported object onto a diagram, and the connections are automatically added once the object's pins have been placed. When you place a device on a diagram, any mated connectors are automatically added to a diagram.
To use this method, you clear the Schematic Diagram Generation option on the Import Connectivity File Chooser Dialog Box and therefore do not use Capital Schematic Generator for Logic Designer.
Prerequisites
Assign the Edit Logic Design permission to your user account to enable the Import Connectivity action. See the “Edit Design” section of the “Edit Project User Permissions” in the Capital Access Manager User Guide.
You have design data containing connectivity information in a suitable format. See “Importing Connectivity” in the Capital Connectors User Guide.

Procedure
Follow the procedure described in “Importing Connectivity Into a Design” in the Capital Connectors User Guide. In the Import Connectivity File Chooser Dialog Box, do not select the Schematic Diagram Generation option.Once the import process is complete the imported objects are displayed in the Design Browser in the “Unplaced” folder for the relevant object type.
Follow the procedure described in Using Diagrams to add a diagram to the design.
Place objects from the Unplaced folders onto the diagram using the Place Dialog Boxes. If the object already has a symbol defined in the Capital Symbol Designer library you can select Symbol Selection in the dialog box to use the symbol on the diagram.
Continue adding objects to the diagram. As more objects are added shadow connection graphics (including any multicore connectivity) are added between connected objects reflecting the original imported design definition.
Once all imported objects have been placed and the connectivity rendered, save the design.Tip You can select objects and press Ctrl+Delete or right‑click and select Delete Graphical Instance to delete objects on a diagram but retain the objects in the Unplaced folder to reuse the connectivity. You can then place them back onto the diagram using the method described in this procedure.
