Axial Dimension Usage in
Formboard Diagrams
Axial dimensions enable point to point measurements between two objects on a full scale diagram. Axial dimensions differ to the standard style / reference style / internode dimensions, which only calculate dimensions along the bundle path.
You can add axial dimensions between fixtures, nodes, and symbol insertion points. Axial dimension end points can snap to any drill point datum or generic datum on a symbol or border, even if the end it is placed on is hidden under another object. See also Adding an Axial Dimension.
By default, if the distance between two nodes is less than 20.0, the dimension arrow heads will be drawn externally, as shown in Figure 310. This value can be overridden using the style set dimension axial shape decoration parameter Toggle Arrows to External if Dimension is less than.
Axial dimensions, as with all harness objects, can be styled. This includes specifying whether a line end arrow style will be none, open, clear or filled and its direction, either left or right. See the “Capital Diagram Styling User Guide” to change the appearance of axial dimensions.
You can add and edit prefix/suffix text using the properties of an axial dimension to display, for example, a tolerance value, or to denote a “Reference Only” dimension. See Editing Dimension Properties.
You can resize and manually modify the start and end lengths of the dimension extension lines to avoid the line traveling through any symbols attached to the node. See Overriding Dimension Extension Line Styling.

The axial dimension is placed between the specified points.

Figure 312 shows an axial dimension between a fixture drill point datum and a generic datum that has been added to a symbol. Generic datums added to comment symbols with irregular profiles, enable axial dimensions to have points of reference to snap to when the symbol is used in Capital Formboard Designer diagrams.

Figure 313 shows how you can accurately locate the position of drill points using axial dimensions between a generic datum located at the corner of the border/formboard and a drill point datum on the border.
