Signal Map Dialog Box for Slot
To access: Select a slot connector, ring terminal, hole or slot in the Diagram Window or Design Browser (Design tab) and either right-click on the selected object and choose Signal Map, or press Space Bar and enter Signal Map.
Use this dialog box to refine slot connectors on a slot and map signals to connector cavities, ring terminals and holes in a slot.
Objects
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Connectors tab | Displays the devices, holes, Generalized Connectors (slot connectors) and ring terminals on the slot. You can use this table to define the Specialized Connectors for the generalized connectors, as well as to mate them with device connectors and backshells. Read-only rows represent the devices in the slot. Other rows represent holes, ring terminals or the mating of a harness connector with a device connector and backshell (as required). If you create duplicate matings, they are displayed in red and the OK button for the dialog box is unavailable. To sort the table rows based on the contents of a column, click the column header. To select which columns you want displayed in the table, right-click a column header and select/unselect the column names as required. Note If a device has been placed multiple times in the slot (see Variant Placement of a Device), it will have multiple rows in this table. |
| Add connector mapping | When a connector name is selected in the Name column, this adds a new row. The row represents a new specialized connector. By default, its name is prefixed by the name of its parent connector. You can mate this new specialized connector with a device connector and backshell (as required). Enabled only if a Name field is selected in the Connector Mating Table. Unavailable if the connector has a footprint. |
| Delete connector mapping | When a connector row is selected in the Connector Mating Table, this deletes that row. If the row contains a slot connector, that connector is deleted from the system. If the system has deleted all but one specialized connector for a generalized connector, the system deletes the remaining specialized connector and replaces it with the generalized connector. The system transfers any attributes to the generalized connector. Enabled only if a Name field is selected in the Connector Mating Table. Unavailable if the connector has a footprint. |
| Copy connector | When a connector is selected in the Connector Table, this creates a connector based on that selected connector. The new connector has the same part number and cavity count as the original connector. You can edit the details. |
| Show Fanout | Displays the Fanout Viewer Dialog Boxthat allows you to create a Fanout diagram of the specialized connectors of the generalized connector (slot connector) to which the currently selected connector belongs. The fanout diagram allows you to reorder the connectors, add new bundle nodes and define the length of the bundles. You can leave the open alongside this dialog box. |
| Object Type | Indicates the type of object represented in the row: device (), connector (), ring terminal () or hole (). Note indicates a device that has been variantly placed. That is, it has been placed multiple times with option expressions. See Variant Placement of a Device for general concept information and examples. |
| Name (Column header) | A unique identifier for the device, hole, ring terminal, generalized connector (slot connector) or specialized connecctor. For a connector or ring terminal, either: enter a new identifier to rename the connector select the identifier for an existing connector from the drop-down list For a hole, specify a unique identifier. For a device, this is read-only. |
| Variant (Column header) | If this is a variant connector, enter the variant option expression for the connector. You can enter the expression manually or click in the field and click the ellipsis (...) button to display the Set Variant Dialog Box where you build the expression by selecting options and operators. The Signal Mappings tab displays the expression in brackets next to the connector name in the Connector column. |
| Part (Column header) | Specifies a library part for the object in the Name column. For a device, this is read-only. For a hole, this is not used. For a connector: Click the field and click the ellipsis (...) button in the field to display the Part Selection dialog box where you can select a library part. If a library part is already selected, you can: right-click the field and click Update Library Part to update it with the latest details for it from Capital Component Manager right-click the field and choose Remove Library Part to remove the library part association from the specialized connector |

| Pin Count (Column header) | Specifies the number of pins on the object in the Name column. For a device, ring terminal or hole, this is read-only. For a connector: If a Part Number is selected, this is read-only. If no part number is selected, enter the number of pins manually. Note If you reduce the pin count, the system verifies that the count is not below the minimum required for the signals and wires mapped to the connector, and it removes only unused cavities from the signal map. |
| Wire Info tab | Displays details of the wires connecting to the connectors, ring terminals and holes from the Connector Mating Table. Each row represents a wire. If no connector mating row is selected in the Connector Mating Table, all wires connecting to all of the objects display. If a connector mating row is selected in the Connector Mating Table, wires connecting to only the selected objects are displayed. You can right-click a row for a wire and choose Wire Properties to view and edit the properties for the wire, including its library part. To sort the table rows based on the contents of a column, click the column header. To select which columns you want displayed in the table, right-click a column header and select/unselect the column names as required. |
| Set Variance | Displays the Set Variant Dialog Boxwhere you can specify a variant option expression for the wire currently selected on the Wire Info tab. If you specify this, the wire becomes a Variant Wire. You can select multiple rows on the tab to specify the same variant option expression for multiple wires. Optional, enabled only when a wire row is selected on the Wire Info tab. |
| Status Column (Blank column header at the start) | Displays an error or warning symbol if there is an issue with the wire. Move your mouse over the symbol to view a brief description of the issue. |
| Harness (Column header) | The harness to which the wire belongs. Read-only. Note When the slot connector is connected to multiple harnesses, the Harness column in the Signal Map dialog box is blank because there is not enough information to determine which harness the signal will be present in. |
| Connector/Hole (Column header) | The connector, ring terminal or hole to which the wire is connected. Read-only. |
| Cavity/Backshell (Column header) | The connector/ring terminal cavity or backshell through which the wire passes. Read-only. |
| ISC | If a signal only connects to devices within a single slot, then it is an internal signal candidate. That is, it may be fully implemented inside the slot and may not need to be mapped to another cavity. An example is when you have some devices (such as fuses) that are connected in a series. The signal joining these fuses does not need to be routed as long as both fuses are in the same slot. The system also takes variant placement into account. If the fuses are both placed in one slot with option expression LHD and in another slot with option expression RHD, then the signal is still an internal signal candidate. |
| Signal (Column header) | The signal carried by the wire. Read-only. |
| Device (Column header) | The device to which the wire connects. Read-only. |
| Pin (Column header) | The pin to which the wire connects. Read-only. |
| Wire (Column header) | The name of the wire. Read-only. |
| Multicore (Column header) | The name of the multicore to which the wire belongs. Read-only. |
| Part (Column header) | The library part assigned to the wire. Read-only. |

| Material (Column header) | The material code of the wire. Read-only. |
| Color (Column header) | The color code of the wire. Read-only. |
| Variant (Column header) | The variant option expression for a variant wire. Optional, read-only here, edited by clicking Set Variance. |
| Option Expression (Column header) | The option expression on the wire. Read-only. |
| Module Code (Column header) | The module code of the wire. Read-only. |
| To (Column header) | The object and pin to which the wire connects at the other end. Read-only. |
| Signal Mappings tab | Used to map signals and wires to holes, connector cavities or ring terminals in the slot. Each row represents a signal mapping to a connector cavity, hole or ring terminal. If no row is selected in the Connector Mating Table, all mappings for all connectors are displayed. If a row is selected, only the mappings that apply to the object in that row display. If you are working in multi user mode, a row has a gray background if a connector in it is locked by another user. Note If you have selected rows in the table and want to clear the selection, right-click them and choose Clear Selection. |
| Duplicate Cavity | Creates a new row that is a duplicate of the currently selected mapping row. This enables you to map: Multiple connector cavities to the same slot device pin Multiple ring terminals to the same stud pin Each mapping has a separate row. |
| Delete Copied Cavity | Deletes the selected duplicate row from the table. Enabled only if you have selected a duplicate row. |
| Delete Mapping | Deletes the selected empty wire row from the table. Enabled only when the same device pin is connected to a wire on another cavity. |
| Unmap Internal Signal Candidate | Unmaps any internal signal candidates in the slot. Not available if there are no internal signal candidates. |
| Manage Variance | Enabled only after running wiring synthesis or if the selected row has a preferred signal. Displays the Manage Variance Dialog Box where you specify variant option expression for the currently selected mapping rows and thereby create variant signals and wires. You may want to do this if you want a signal to go through different cavities, independently of variant connectors, in different configurations. |

| Connector (Column header) | Displays the name of a hole, ring terminal, generalized connector or specialized connector from the Connector Mating Table. Mandatory. Note The Connector column drop-down list is filtered to show only connectors that are present in the same configurations as the device that is being mapped to. If an expected connector is missing, it may have the wrong variant assigned or the plan definition could be incorrect. |
| Cavity (Column header) | Displays the name of a cavity on the connector or ring terminal in the Connector column. Mandatory. To change the cavity for this mapping, either: click the table cell and select an existing cavity name from the drop-down list. Selecting a used cavity does not swap the mapping but leaves both rows mapped to the same cavity. enter a new name for the cavity; the old cavity name is updated to the new name wherever used in this table. Not possible if the connector has a library part. Note You can move, swap, and copy signal mappings when editing them in the Signal Mappings tab of a Signal Map dialog box. See Moving, Swapping, and Copying Signal Mappings. |
| Harness (Column header) | Displays the name of the harness owning the object in the Connector column. Read-only. |

| Device (Column header) | Displays the name of the device in the slot to which the Signal is mapped. Read-only. Note indicates a device that has been variantly placed. That is, it has been placed multiple times with option expressions. See Variant Placement of a Device for general concept information and examples. The option expression for this instance of the device displays in brackets after the device name. If you hold the mouse cursor over the device name, a tooltip displays the option expression on the associated device in Capital Logic Designer. |
| Exclusive Mappings Filter (View exclusive mappings / Hide exclusive mappings) | Toggles whether the Signal Mappings tab displays mappings that contain option expressions that are mutually exclusive as defined in the options or plan, and are therefore invalid. For an example of such mappings, see Example of Exclusive Mappings in a Slot. |
| Mappings Unsupported by Harness Levels Filter (View mappings unsupported by harness levels / Hide mappings unsupported by harness levels) | Toggles whether the Signal Mappings tab displays mappings that contain options expressions that are mutully exclusive within a harness level, and are therefore invalid. For an example of such mappings, see Example of Exclusive Mappings in a Slot due to Harness Levels. |
| Slot instance filter (Show only connectors and holes present on selected slot / Show connectors and holes on all slot appearances in design) | Filters the contents of the Signal Mappings tab so that only connectors and holes on the selected instance of the slot display. You can toggle this setting to display all connectors and holes on all instances of the slot. |
| Active Wiring Filter | Filters the contents of the Signal Mappings tab so that only wiring that is currently active in the diagram displays. |
| Connected cavities filter (Show connected cavities only / Show all cavities | Filters the contents of the Signal Mappings tab so that only connected cavities display. |
| Show Faceviews Hide Faceviews | Opens or closes the Connector Faceview panel at the side of the Signal Map dialog box. Show Faceviews is unavailable if there are no accessible comment symbols for the connectors. See Viewing Connector Faceview Symbols in Signal Maps. Note The Connector Faceview Panel is not shown by default when you first open a Signal Map dialog box. When you open a Signal Map dialog box again, it remembers whether you selected to show or hide the panel the previous time. |
| Unmapped Signals tab | When there are unmapped signals in the Signal Map dialog box, a message displays at the bottom of the Signal Mappings tab: There are unmapped signals. Click here to view them. You can click to open a separate Unmapped Signals tab that lists the same columns but only the rows for unmapped signals. The tab is tearable and can be dragged away from its position in the dialog box so that it displays in its own separate window. When first dragging the tab to display the separate window, you must release the mouse button within the area of the Signal Map dialog box. You can then drag the separate window to a location outside of the dialog box. See Mapping a Signal to a Hole or Slot Connector Cavity on a Slot for instructions on mapping signals. | Connector Faceview Panel | Enables you to select and display a connector faceview symbol. |

| Symbol | Select the comment symbol that you want to use as the faceview. Each item in the list consists of a symbol library name and symbol name. If the connector has a library part with associated faceview symbols in Capital Component Manager, the panel offers these symbols for selection. Note A faceview symbol is created as a comment symbol with pins in Capital Symbol Designer. If the library part does not have associated faceview symbols in Capital Component Manager, the panel searches for symbols (with the same name as the connector part number) in the symbol libraries specified in the “Connector View Libraries” project preference for Capital Systems Integrator. |
| Show all cavity names Hide all cavity names | You can toggle the display of connector cavity datum names in the faceview window. Note There must be RED (related entity datum) type cavity names defined in the symbol to display cavity names. |
| Faceview window | Displays the selected comment symbol. If you have a refined connector and therefore multiple faceviews, the displayed faceview symbol changes accordingly based on the connector cavity selection as part of the cross-highlighting. |
| OK | Closes the dialog box. Unavailable if any wires are unmapped. |
