Instantiating
ICD Cables and Shield Conductors
Within Capital Device Modeler, you can describe signals on ICD pins as being implemented as multicore cables. When the ICD is placed on a diagram, and has pins with connectivity common to pins already placed on the diagram, connections are added automatically. These connections are described as nets or wires if the abstraction is set to automatically Generate Harness Connectors. The system automatically handles shield connections, caveats for which are noted at the end of this procedure.
Note
The ability to place ICD cables is only available when using Capital Logic Designer in Single‑User mode. It is not available in Multi‑User mode.
Prerequisites
ICDs with multicore definitions described against a signal being implemented on a pin in Capital Logic Designer have been defined in Capital Device Modeler.
These ICDs are applicable to the current design and are unplaced.
Procedure
Select an ICD from the Unplaced folder and drag it on to the diagram.
A “shadow” graphic is displayed if any pins on that ICD have matching signal names to pins already placed on the diagram.
Nets are placed on the design with a multicore created over them according to its Capital Device Modeler definition.
Results
- The design rule check ICD Multicore Inconsistency checks for missing connectivity between the placed ICDs. This can be manually corrected or you can select Update From ICD from the context menu.
Note
If a third ICD is added to the design which shares the same net as the existing multicore created between ICDs that have already been placed, a ghosted connection is shown linking this wire with the existing wire on the diagram.
However, the system cannot ascertain if the wire should be spliced or multi-termed into the existing multicore. In this instance, a dangling wire is added to the diagram which in turn is added to a new multicore. The order the ICDs are placed depends on which two ICDs are connected together and which will be created with floating connections.
Examples
The following caveats should be noted for shield creation behavior.
A shield sign from a pin will only get connected to those hook-ups corresponding to the multicores that are connected to the parent ICD.
The Update From ICD action reuses any dangling shield conductors present on the nearest hookup. Dangling shields which may be present on other hookups (other than the nearest) are not re-used.
The Update From ICD action may cause existing multicores to be deleted and new multicores to be created. In such cases, shield connections to pins on ICDs, corresponding to old multicores are deleted. The shield connections on diagrams other than the active diagram or other designs, (in the case of shared multicores) will not be established until you run the Update From ICD action on the pinlists present on those diagrams or designs.
