Generating Diagrams for

a Project

You can use Capital Schematic Generator for Logic Designer to generate diagrams for all designs without diagrams in a project.

Note

To save time when you run these steps again, create a configuration file to store all the settings on all the tabs of the dialog box used in this task. You can then import the file to automatically populate all the fields.

Procedure

Right-click the project name in the Project Browser window and select Generate Diagrams.The Schematic Diagram Generator dialog box is displayed.
On the General tab, specify the following:Border Selection — Select [No Border] to create diagrams with no border in the project. To use a border on the diagrams, select the border name in the browser tree.

Horizontal — Specify to align the border with the left, right, or center of the connectivity on the diagram.

Vertical — Specify to align the border with the top, bottom, or center of the connectivity on the diagram.

Regenerate Existing Diagrams — Select to regenerate any existing diagrams based on the currently specified settings.

Run Segment Overlay DRC — Select to run a design rule check that checks for overlaying conductor segments.

To specify the required styling to use for objects on the generated diagrams, click the Component Styling tab. Note By default, Capital Schematic Generator for Logic Designer uses the Default style set for Capital E/E Publisher.

If you have a license to use Capital Styling, use the Style Set dropdown list at the top of the tab to select a different style set, if they are available. Tip You can click the ellipsis (...) to open the Style Sets Dialog where you can edit an existing style set, or create a new style set.

Caution On the Component Styling tab, you can edit the default style set, or selected style set but note that the changes apply to any designs using the style set, and is visible if this style set is viewed in Capital Project Manager.

Refer to the Diagram Styling User Guide for more information about style sets, and how to edit them.

On the Layout Styling tab, specify the layout preferences required for the diagrams. See Specifying Layout Styling When Generating Diagrams.
To use template diagrams from another project for the diagrams generation, click the Prototype tab. Any connectivity in the current project matching connectivity in the selected template designs adopts the layout from the template. Any unmatched connectivity in the current project is laid out automatically. Note The system includes design rules and algorithms to control the layout of the generated diagrams. When a path in a current project is of greater complexity than its reference path in a template, the algorithms help to determine the path layout.

Specify the following: Select Prototype Design By — Define how the system selects template designs for the project designs within (the system selects the latest design): Name — Template designs are selected by matching design names regardless of whether the designs are revised designs in the current project. For example, if there is a design POWER:1:review in the current project, and an unrelated design POWER:20:partial in the template project, POWER:20:partial is selected as the template.

Revision — Template designs are selected only if they are revised designs in the current project. For example, if there is a design POWER:1:review in the current project, and an unrelated design POWER:20:partial in the template project, POWER:20:partial will not be selected as a template. Note If a design (for which diagrams have to be generated) and the template are revisions of the same design, connectivity objects (devices, conductors, and so on) are matched by revisions. Otherwise, connectivity objects are matched by name. This matching rule applies in all cases. For example, even if you select to match designs by name, the connectivity objects are matched by revisions, if the design, and its template are revisions of the same design.

From Project — Select the project containing the template designs to select from.

Select the Background Run check box to use the Flexible Execution Model (FEM) to generate diagrams as a background task. Clear to run the diagram generator task locally.Note You must run at least one Capital Integration Server (CIS) controller in your Capital environment to display the Background Run check box. You can monitor the task and access the log file on the Tasks Tab in the Output Window. You can also access the log files in your temp directory.

Click Generate Diagrams.Note If a design has a diagram, it is ignored by Capital Schematic Generator for Logic Designer and a message appears on the Import/Generate tab in the Output window at the bottom of the application.
