Adding and Mapping Modular Inserts to Inline Connectors
You can add modular inserts and map the associated pins to inline connectors which have been converted to a plug / jack pair.
Prerequisites
- An inline connector with pins exists on the diagram.
Procedure
Select the inline connector in the Diagram window or from the Design Browser.
Right-click and select Convert to Plug/Jack Pair, to enable the Modular Tab (Properties Dialog Box).
Select the inline plug or jack in the Diagram window or from the Design Browser window to open the Properties Dialog Box:Right-click and select Properties.
Press Alt + Enter.
Double-click the connector in the Diagram window.
Click the General tab.
Click the ellipsis button (...) to the right of the Library Part field, to open the Part Selection Dialog Box.
Click the Search icon () to the right of the Search by field.By default, the Parts table displays only those components with the same or more number of cavities as the connector in the design.
You can search for components with fewer cavities than there are cavities on the connector, but the same number of total pins (including all pins on lower-level inserts). The Search Modular Hierarchy check box calculates all possible combinations from the library and lists all components with a total sum of pins (from all levels) equal to or more than the cavities on the connector.
To search for components with fewer cavities but the same number of total pins, select the Search Modular Hierarchy check box in the Filter table, and then click the Search icon ().
If required, verify the total number of pins on sub-components with less cavities:Choose a component with less cavities than the connector, and click the View part details icon (). Click the Housing tab. Note the total number of pins for all sub-components in the Position column, and then click Close.
To add the component and close the Part Selection dialog box, click Insert.Note In the Properties dialog box, the OK button is dimmed as all instance pins must be mapped to the cavities because, until the connector is modularized, the component appears to have fewer cavities than the instance.
To add a modular insert and map instance pins to it, click the Modular tab and follow the topic Adding and Mapping Modular Inserts to a Connector With Pins.Note If you add modular inserts to a plug or jack that are part of a plug / jack pair, the pins on the other side are automatically renamed to facilitate mapping the remaining half.
Repeat the procedure from Step 3 for the plug or the jack to complete the inline connector mapping.Figure 60: Inline Connector with Mirrored Pins Note The pins on the plug and the jack do not have to be a mirror image of each other. If required, perform the following step to re-map the pins.
To change the pin mapping, associate and disassociate the pins as required on the Modular Tab (Properties Dialog Box).Figure 61: Plug and Jack with Different Pin Structures To view adding and mapping modular inserts to inline connectors:
Results
The existing pins are renamed and any associated modular inserts are displayed on the plug and jack on the diagram, and added to the Design Browser.
