Connectors Using a Housing

You can use the Generate Harness Connectors action to generate ring terminals on stud pins on a device with a library part that has a ring terminal in its housing definition.

Prerequisites

  • You have added a device with a library part that has one or more ring terminals mapped to stud pins in its housing to a diagram, and you have placed pins on the device. Adding a Device From Capital Component Manager as a Parameterized Device.

Note

You cannot use a housing to map a ring terminal to a normal (non-stud) pin. Instead, use a footprint definition to create the mapping. See Generating Harness Connectors Using a Footprint.

Procedure

To generate ring terminals:

  • Select the device, press the space bar and enter Generate Connectors.

  • Right-click the device and select Generate Harness Connectors.

Results

  • Ring terminals are added to stud pins that have ring terminals mapped to them in the housing.

  • If a stud pin has more than one ring terminal mapped to it in the housing (by having multiple individual ring terminals mapped to it or by having a Ring Terminal Group mapped to it), the most suitable ring terminal is selected taking into account the gauge, quantity, and material of the wires connected to the stud pin, while also honoring any scope and factor settings in the housing definition.

  • If you had already connected conductors to the stud pins, they are moved so they are connected to the pins on the ring terminals instead.

Note

If the design abstraction assigned to the design has the “Auto create harness connectors” option selected, ring terminals are generated automatically when you add a device with a library part definition that has a ring terminal in its housing.
