Capital Devices User Guide > Introduction
Introduction
Capital Devices is a web-based tool that captures and manages device data, and its flow. It enables Device Engineers to create Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for use in the Capital design flow, as well as manage the ICD life cycle actions allowing information to be created, revised, deleted, released and allocated to systems.
Capital Devices also allows engineers to interact with Capital Library data when specifying ICDs. It contains functionality enabling the direct maintenance of a dictionary of standard values such as names and descriptions from within the tool for devices and nets. Additional properties can be associated with the names and propagated to the nets and devices when the ICD is placed on a design.
By unifying this functionality under one simple web interface, Capital Devices can aid device engineers with tasks such as:
- designing the input and outputs (I/O) of devices
- details about device usage and applicability
- specifying which platforms devices are applicable to
- capturing and distributing all of this device description information within an ICD into the design process
Prior to the introduction of Capital Devices this device description information was captured in "dumb" documents such as PDFs or spreadsheets. Data, in this form, is not easily transferable and lacks traceability across the design flow. Often all verification and validation data is a manual process.
Note: There are a number of settings that must first be enabled in the Capital configuration files before using Capital Devices. These include ensuring the
logicicd_integrationis set and the ICD web client is enabled. See the Capital Configuration Files User Guide for further information on these settings.
