Importing Design Data

You can schedule to import design data on a regular basis or import files instantly to synchronize Capital Cable Router with the latest Capital and NX design data stored in Teamcenter.

Synchronization supports the following design data types:

  • Cable Library (Cable Type)

  • Cable and Devices

  • Cableway Libraries (for example, space reservation, penetration, and hangers)

  • Device positions

  • Nodal network

Restrictions and Limitations

  • When the XML data is imported, the system does not automatically update the properties of Cableway Equipment types which are assigned to segments in existing projects. Caution Updating the properties of equipment types can compromise the integrity of existing projects. Ensure that you have considered the impact of forcing updates before you modify the import configuration.

To permit the property values to be updated during import, System Administrators can configure the following parameter in the cmpic.config file to force the update: Copyexport FORCE="Y"Default value is “N”. See Configuring Units of Measure for Off-Route Values to locate the cmpic.config file in the specified destination folder on the sftp / ftp server.

  • The CMPIC database permits up to 60 characters for design data descriptions, such as the Description, Remarks, or Comments fields. To avoid import errors, you must ensure that the descriptions imported with the design data from Teamcenter are 60 characters or less.

  • To avoid errors when re-importing cables with different Cable Type codes, ensure that the Approved flag is Yes in the Cable Types window in Capital Cable Router Admin. Default is Yes.

  • To avoid errors when re-importing cables and cable types, ensure that the Usage / Purpose codes are the same in the source and target projects: Depending on the “Mismatched Usage between Cable Types and Cable” project preference, any differences may be strictly controlled or require your confirmation. See also General Tab.

  • If a cable, segment, or node is locked for editing, the data import for the locked design object will fail. See also Locking Design Objects for Editing.

Prerequisites

  • System Administrators have specified the following parameters in the RouterImportConfiguration.xml file located in the capital_installation\config\cablerouter folder: Frequency

Source location folder

Backup location folder

Destination folder location

Log file folder location

Server address

Server username and password

See also “RouterImportConfiguration.xml File Format” in the Install Guide for Capital Cable Router.

  • To validate imported .xml files, the default configuration uses the XSD schema CMPIC_XML_API.xsd located in the capital_installation\config\cablerouter folder. System Administrators must use the ccrsconfig.xml.example file and configure the cmpicxmlapipath parameter if an alternative XSD schema is required. See also “ccrsconfig.xml File Format” in the Install Guide for Capital Cable Router.

  • To pre-process XML files and convert effectivity to applicability on imported nodes, segments, devices, and cables, System Administrators must add the following parameter to the \config\cablerouter\cmpic.config file: Copyexport BSTATUS="DEFERRED"See Configuring Units of Measure for Off-Route Values to locate the cmpic.config file in the specified destination folder on the sftp / ftp server.

  • To include the F-Entry and T-Entry columns in exported XML files from Teamcenter, add the following lines to the CapitalRouter_IntegrationDefinition.xml file within the dataset CapitalRouter_BHM_INT_DEF_FILE: Copy`

`

Procedure

  1. Click the Data Management icon () and select Synchronize Data.

  2. To view the following details of the last successful import, click the Scheduled tab:Frequency — Time and day of the scheduled import. Run every day at 1am local time by default.

Next Run Schedule — Date and time of the next scheduled import.

Configured Source Location — Folder location from where the files are imported.

Last File Submitted — Name of the log file generated after the last import.

Last Import Status — Confirms if the export was successful or failed to complete.

Backup Location — Folder location of the generated log file.

  1. To invoke an instant import of the design data:Click the On-Demand tab, and then click Import to synchronize individual design data files. The Windows browser displays the specified source location folder.

Navigate to and select the .xml file to be imported, and then click Open. (Optional) Continue to click Import to synchronize all the required design data types.

Results

  • The import runs in the background so you can continue using Capital Cable Router while the import is running.

  • The system imports any new files identified in the “Configured Source Location” folder.

  • You can view the details of the last import or reasons for failed imports in the Log Details pane, or in the log file located in your configured backup folder. Note When the import includes changes to the nodal network, some immature cables might be unrouted fully or partially, for example, because of deleted nodes or segments. The import log will display the status of the cables as unrouted or partially routed. After the import is complete, Autorouter is run to attempt to reroute any impacted cables, and based on the results, the cable route status is updated.
