Submitting Cables for Auto
Routing
You can configure the cable details and specify the routing mode in the Submit Cables for Auto Routing dialog box before you submit the cables to automatically route along the nodal network within the 3D assembly.
Restrictions and Limitations
- You can submit cables to evaluate available routes on the nodal network; however, if the cables are locked by other users, you cannot accept the identified cable routes in the Manage Routing Requests dialog box until the locks are released. See also Locking Design Objects for Editing.
Prerequisites
Click the Submit to Auto-Route icon () to send the cables in the Auto-Router queue to the Auto-Router and open the Submit Cables for Auto Routing dialog box.
To enable Device Routing mode, you must configure the following project or system‑level preferences on the Network Tab and Routing Tab in Capital Cable Router Admin and the configuration file: Network tab Jump Segment Type — Specify the existing Segment type used to represent Jump segments. Recommended is _JUMP.
Routing tab Cable From/To Nodes — Choose Not Required or Not Required, default to Area.
Enable Device-to-Device Routing — Select to activate Device Routing mode.
Max distance between device and nodes in Area — Specify the distance in meters. Default is 5.00.

Determine the action you want to take:

| Apply routing rules and preferences to the cables. | Select a cable and then click the Rules and Preferences icon (). See Applying Routing Rules and Preferences to prevent or mandate cable routing through a node or segment or to override specific rules. |
| Apply rule sets configured in the Define Rules and Preferences Dialog Box. | Select a cable, and then click the Select Rulesets icon (). The Select Rulesets dialog box is displayed. Select the rule sets to apply to the cable, and then click Select. |
| Copy a route from an existing routed cable. | Select a target cable, and then click the Copy Route icon (). The Copy Routes dialog box lists routed cables in the project which have routes that are available to copy to the selected cable. Select a source cable in the Routed Cables table to display the routes in the Available Routes table. (Optional) Select the View in Reverse check box to reverse the order of the routes. To select routes in the Available Routes table: Select a row to include a cable route. Specify the Start and End nodes to include one or more cable routes. Select the Select all Routes check box to copy all the available routes. Click Set as Copy Route to copy the selected routes. The routes are copied to the target cable. If the From / To nodes and devices on the source cable match the target cable, the target cable will inherit the Off Route lengths and Entry IDs from the source cable. |
| Remove a copied route from a cable. | Select one or more cables with a copied route from an existing cable to activate the Clear Copied Routes button. Click Clear Copied Routes to remove copied routes from the cable. |
| Modify the Routing mode the system uses to calculate the cable route. | Select a cable, and then click the Set Alternative Start/End icon (). The Set Alternative Start/End dialog box is displayed. Click the Alternative Start and Alternative End dropdown lists and choose one of the following options: OFF ROUTE Device Routing Area Routing |
| Submit cables to the Auto-Router and display the cable routes in the 3D visualization window. | Select one or more cables, and then click Submit. Note In the Manage Routing Requests dialog box, if you resubmit a routing request for a cable without modifying the rules and preferences, a warning message is displayed. You can continue to search and add cables to the Auto‑Router queue and view the routing status in the Manage Routing Requests dialog box, while the cable routing is processing. |
