Rotating a Section of Harness

When working in a non-full scale diagram, the angle of bundles can be changed by simply grabbing a node at either end of the bundle and dragging it into a new position. For full scale diagrams, this is not permitted as they require the length of drawn bundles be maintained unless manually edited, (as changing the angle of bundles may result in changes to the length of connected bundles). Instead, a rotation technique is available to change the angle of bundles, ensuring that bundle length is maintained.

Note

This technique can also be applied to bundles in non-full scale diagrams.

Procedure

1. Either:Right-click a bundle and select Rotate Section of Harness

Press Space Bar and enter Bundle Palette; the Bundle Palette Dialog Box is displayed. Click Rotate Section of Harness ().

The cursor changes to .

2. Click a bundle adjacent to the pivot point (structure node/waypoint/grip point) about which you want to rotate a section of the harness. The nearest pivot point is selected.

3. Specify the section of harness to be rotated by double-clicking the first bundle adjacent to the selected pivot point (click near to the next available pivot point). The selected bundle, and all bundles attached to it, are highlighted in red, indicating that they may now be rotated.Note If you have selected a partially hidden bundle (see Hide Pre-Assembled Content from Final Assembly Formboards), the pivot point is always the non hidden end.

4. Move the mouse to rotate the bundle, and then double-click to confirm the new position

Results

• The selected section is rotated and all the bundle lengths are preserved.

• If a bundle is rotated and its quadrant position is changed, the decoration position for that quadrant is applied automatically, if one has been defined in styling. See also “Quadrant Positions” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide.

• The angle of rotation increments by an amount defined in the style set associated with the diagram. See “Design Settings” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide to set the RotationAngleRoundingValue option.

• Pressing the T key toggles between two modes of rotation; The first mode maintains the angle between the bundle you have selected to rotate and all bundles connected to it; the harness section is rotated as a complete, fixed unit.

The second mode enable the selected bundle to be rotated, but all connected bundles maintain their orientation relative to the diagram axes; the connected bundles will move as a result of the rotation, but their orientation remains the same.

• Pressing the Ctrl key toggles the rotation tool from relative to global mode: Relative rotation (the default mode) reports the number of degrees of rotation using the original bundle orientation as 0/360.

Global rotation reports the number of degrees of rotation using the axes of the design, with horizontal-right (or east) being 0/360.
