Copy and Paste a Harness Section

You can copy and paste a section of a harness onto any diagram in your design or between diagrams in different designs or projects to reduce the time to replicate branches and associated objects, such as bundles, connectors, additional components, properties, or insulations.

This video shows how you can use the copy and paste actions.

You can copy and paste the following design objects in accordance with the rules:

  • Assemblies

  • Bundles

  • Clips

  • Comments

  • Connectors

  • Devices

  • Dimensions

  • Grommets

  • Insulation Runs

  • Multi-Location Node Cavity and Wire End Components

  • Multicores

  • Node

  • Other Components

  • Ring Terminals

  • Splices

  • Spot and Breakout Tape

  • Wires

Restriction

You cannot select mid or end-branch objects (clips, grommets, splices, and connectors) on their own to copy because they are linked to a bundle. You must select a part of their associated bundle to copy them.

You can use the Grid Snap icon () on the Status Bar to copy and paste bundles on the target diagram on or off the grid.

If you copy a bundle which contains nodes on the grid, you can select the Grid Snap icon to pasted the bundle on the grid to easily reconnect to the harness. If the Grid Snap icon is off, the bundle is pasted off grid at the cursor location.

Styling Included with Copy / Paste

You can use the “Retain decoration overrides on paste to diagram” system preference to preserve the current style set and any overridden decorations when you copy and paste the harness or section of the harness, or apply the style set associated with the target design.

Data

Included with Copy / Paste

The following information is included with the copy / paste for all objects, where applicable:

  • Name Names are copied according to the Pasting rules.

  • Part Number The same part number is assigned.

  • Properties All properties are copied.

  • Option Expressions Option codes configured against a copied component are only pasted if they already exist in the target project / design.

  • Functional and Production Modular Expressions Functional module codes configured against a copied component are pasted only to targets in the same project. They are not pasted to targets in different projects. Production module codes configured against a copied component are never pasted to a target diagram.

  • Editable Attributes All are copy / pasted with the object.

Note

You can only copy / paste between diagrams of the same type:

  • A non-full scale diagram to a non-full scale diagram.

  • A full scale diagram to a full scale diagram.
