Overview of Single Lines

You can use single lines to create the layout of devices and wiring during the initial design phases and modify designs without considering the complexities of detailed wiring.

Unlike Highways, which act as containers for wires, single lines represent the multicore cables that connect devices, without including the pin connections of each core, which you can create later on the detailed wiring diagram.

To create a single line diagram, you can use the Single Line () ribbon action to draw the logical connections between devices.

Restriction

Single line objects created in Capital Logic Designer designs are not supported in Topology Designs.

While single lines are simplified, they still contain the attributes of the multicore cables they represent.

You can manually specify the attribute values or assign a multicore library part number to inherit the values from the part number definition. You can also right-click a multicore part number in the Parts Browser and select Create Single Line to add a component on the diagram with the library part details pre‑populated.

A single line object displays both graphically on the diagram and under a Single Lines node in the Design Browser, beneath which the device connections interfacing with it are listed alphanumerically.

If you connect single lines to device symbols, the connection is maintained if you convert the symbol to a parameterized device or add a part number to the device which is associated with a different symbol.

You can also share single lines to add the same object to multiple designs within a project, and specify how single lines display on the diagram using the Single Line node in the default style sets.

Caution

You must select the Enable Single Line styling System Preference to display the Single Line node and modify the styling of single line objects.

However, this action is irreversible and if enabled, system data, styling data, and project data are not backward compatible.
