Selecting the Electrical Project and Harnesses

Project Based 3D Electrical Context

An electrical project from Capital is used to associate mechanical context data to electrical context data, and thereby creates a 3D electrical context that enables electrical mechanical co-design activities.

Within an electrical project, the 3D electrical context enables the creation of relationships between 3D harness content (from the MCAD workspace) with electrical wiring objects (from the Capital workspace).

Created when an electrical project is first opened in 3D Electrical Design, the 3D electrical context exists as a 3D enabled Capital Wiring Integrator design. It embeds Capital Wiring Integrator tree objects in a Capital navigator window and enables a Capital Output Window in the MCAD workspace, allowing you to directly build the required relationships between MCAD and Capital objects, as well as manage integration tasks such as synchronization, routing and back annotate actions.

Note

In the Capital environment, the 3D electrical context is created as a design and diagram, which are listed with any other designs for the project in Capital applications (such as Capital Project Manager). By default, the design is created in a design folder called 3D Electrical. You can change the name of the folder, or move the design to another design folder.

In Capital, most high-level design actions are supported on the 3D electrical context design, but you cannot add another diagram to it, and you cannot open the diagram in Capital applications.

With context established between workspaces, you can now add harnesses from your open assembly to the 3D electrical context. Data is exchanged (synchronized) from your MCAD harness assemblies with Capital objects when harnesses are added.

Data exchange is maintained through an associated X2ML dataset file. An X2ML dataset file is created and updated every time an MCAD harness assembly is saved back to Team Center. It contains data in Capital's native Harness XML format file to enable the data exchange.
