Preventing Option

Giveaway on a Harness Level

You can use a PreventGiveaway property on a harness level to prevent specific options from being given away on that harness level.

Without this property, Capital always assumes that it can give away any option supported by a harness level (for example, option ABS). For this reason, wiring synthesis might include a harness level with a particular option in a configuration that does support that option. When this happens, synthesis can include wires required when the option is not present (for example, wires with option expression !ABS). See Example GiveAway without PreventGiveaway Property for a detailed description of this example.

This is not always an error but sometimes it is not the intended result.

Use of the PreventGiveaway property, ensures that synthesis can use the harness level only in configurations that support specific options from the harness level.

Note

You can run the design rule check ‘Mismatched wire option expression and harness level’ to identify harness levels where there are issues relevant to this. It reports such issues as: ‘Wire wire1234 in signal SIG01 has an option expression which is not active in some of its harness levels: Has OPT1, Has OPT1 and OPT2.’

Procedure

  1. In the Configuration Setting Browser Window (Configuration tab), navigate to the harness level in the browser.

  2. Right-click the harness level and choose Properties.A Harness Level properties dialog box displays.

  3. Click the Properties tab and click the New button. The New Property dialog box displays.

  4. Type PreventGiveaway as the property name and click OK.The property is added to the Properties tab.

  5. In the Value column, enter the options that the system cannot give away for this harness level. If there are multiple options, enter a space between each one. For example, OPT1 OPT2 OPT3.

  6. Click OK.

Results

  • Next time you run wiring synthesis, it can use the harness level only in configurations that support those options. That is, those options cannot be giveway options for that harness level in configurations that do not support them.

  • You can check wiring is now correct by re-running the design rule check ‘Mismatched wire option expression and harness level’.

  • If the PreventGiveaway property results in no level being available in a harness for a given configuration, the system writes detailed information to the application log file.
