Adding Content to the PM Browser
You can use the Production Module Explorer (PM Explorer) to build up content for a candidate production module.
This video demonstrates the flow.
Prerequisites
- You have FM codes with suitable relationships assigned to all required wires in the design (for Module Code based generation) or you have the full number of expected derivatives registered in the system (for Derivative based generation).
Procedure
Click the View Module Explorer button () on the PM Module Browser. The PM Explorer opens in the Output Window. Note If you press Ctrl when clicking the View Module Explorer button, the PM Explorer opens in floating mode and you can position it anywhere on your screen.
Add the required objects (typically you would start by adding connectors or splices with attached wires) to the PM Explorer, to build up a potential production module candidate. There are various ways to add content to the PM Explorer:Right-click the required single / multi-selected objects on the diagram or in the PM Module Code browser and select Add to PM Code Explorer.
Drag and drop objects from the PM Module browser tab, including the Unassigned folder.
- When you have added the required connectors or splices you can optionally use the any of the following actions to further edit your candidate production module:Add Unassigned Wires — With one or more connectors (or splices with attached wires) selected in the PM Explorer table, click to automatically add any of their wires, that have not yet been assigned to a production module, to the table. The same functionality is available from the right-click menu as below.
Add Bundle Components — Click to automatically add any components (clips, grommets, insulation, and so on), belonging to a complete bundle, to the candidate content. A complete bundle is one where all of its wires are present in the PM Explorer table.
Plug Variance Management — Click to open the Plug Variance Management Dialog Box. Use to configure the generation process to consider the presence (or not) of all wires and their codes that are terminated in plugged connectors. See “Plug Variance Management”.
Remove Selected — Removes all selected objects from the table.
Remove Unselected — Removes all unselected objects from the table.
Right-Click Actions Right-click a wire row:
Add “From Component” Adds the component displayed in the “From Comp” cell to the table.
Add “To Component” Adds the component displayed in the “To Comp” cell to the table.
Right-click a terminating component.
Add Unassigned Wires Adds unassigned wires that terminate in the selected component to the table.
Add All Attached Wires Adds all (assigned and unassigned) wires that terminate in the selected component to the table. Where running the action on a connector, if one of the wires terminating at the chosen connector is part of a multicore, all the other inner wires of the multicore are added to the table. Where you have right-clicked a connector with a backshell defined, if all wires connecting the backshell are brought into the PM explorer, the backshell is automatically added to the table. Note This action is also enabled if you have right-clicked a row for a wire that is part of a multicore. All wires (assigned and unassigned) related to the multicore are added to the table.
Right-click an assembly or a component belonging to an assembly.
Add Assembly Content If an assembly row is selected, adds all the components belonging to the assembly. If a component belonging to an assembly is selected, adds all the components belonging to the assembly.

To aid your visualization of the objects in the table, click the first column header to group and sort the wires hierarchically under their terminating objects. Click again to reverse the sort.Wires that terminate in two displayed objects are displayed twice, once below each terminating object (for example, wire “5N-GND” in Figure 432). If you sort the table on another column, the hierarchical display is removed. Only one row for each wire is displayed. Figure 432: Hierarchical Sort
To aid your visualization of the production module candidate:Use the View Module Content controls to dim the diagram and highlight only the selected objects in the table. The orange circles denote wire terminations at connectors, devices, backshells, or splices. Figure 433: Dimmer
When you have built up sufficient content in the candidate parent module, you can run a simulation process that calculates the number of variants that will be created. See “Simulating Production Technical Variations from the PM Module Explorer”.
