Segments

The network segments represent a connection between two nodes to form a logical path along which cables can be routed.

Segments also determine the length and position of the following types of cableway equipment:

  • Trays

  • Hangers

  • Penetrations

  • Air jumps / gaps (bare routing segments)

Each item of cableway equipment belongs to a family of parts defined in NX and is represented by a Segment Type in Capital Cable Router Admin, for example, cable trays, elbows, tees, and penetrations.

Field Description
Segment ID Unique identifier for the segment.
From Node ID The unique identifier of the node defining the start of the segment.
To Node ID The unique identifier of the node defining the end of the segment.
Segment Type Maps to the actual cableway equipment item in NX that belongs to a family of parts, such as cable trays. You can preconfigure the Segment Types in the Library Data in Capital Cable Router Admin, see Creating Library Data. Once they are defined, you can import segments with assigned Segment Types inherited from the library part definitions in NX.
Length The physical length between the nodes and not necessarily the straight-line distance. For example, a corner bend would include the curved segment length. Note A curved physical cableway object, such as an elbow, is displayed as a straight line to minimize the number of unnecessary nodes and display complexity in the vessel thereby enhancing routing and loading performance.
Raceway ID Unique identifier of the Raceway. Raceway is a group of connected nodes and segments used to determine group segments and nodes for easier identification of the route. Raceways are displayed in reports to ease installation by referring to groups of segments and nodes as one item.
Segregation Lists single codes, multiple codes, or group codes. See also Project Codes. Used to calculate which cables can share the same segment by cross-checking (during routing) the Segregation codes on the segment with the code on each cable trying to pass through it.
Blocked Controls whether additional cables can be routed along the segment. Blocked = No when segments are imported to Capital Cable Router. You can switch to Yes to restrict routing along segments that are already full. See Embellishing the Nodal Network to control the routing process behavior in the Details pane, or the Define Rules and Preferences Dialog Box to ignore blocked segments when evaluating potential routes.
Fill Type Specifies the method used to calculate the volumetric percentage fill of the segment. The Fill types of cableway components are determined by the library part definitions. Each cableway segment on the network inherits the Fill types from the library part definitions. You can override the inherited Fill type on individual segments using the Network Tab in Capital Cable Router Admin. See Fill Types, for a description of the standard Fill types.
Volume Fill % Displays the percentage of the volume of the tray which is occupied by cables. Prevents or enables additional cables to be routed depending on the available percentage and the threshold value of the segment. Highlighted Red if the segment is blocked or the fill threshold is exceeded.
Volume Fill Threshold % Specifies the percentage of the segment volume above which the segment is flagged as "overfull".
Weight Fill % Displays the percentage of the weight fill of the tray which is occupied by cables. Prevents or enables additional cables to be routed depending on the available percentage and the threshold value of the segment. Highlighted Red if the segment is blocked or the fill threshold is exceeded.
Weight Fill Threshold % Specifies the percentage of the segment weight fill above which the segment is flagged as "overfull".
Usable Area Area on non-standard penetration segments that is available to route cables where the aperture shape (opening of a penetration segment through which the cable passes) is irregular.
Effectivity (NX) Applicability (Cable Router) Value used to identify if an object is applicable to a specific vessel in a multi‑vessel project. Each major item in Capital Cable Router is associated with an Applicability value, which determines whether the object “applies” to one or more vessels (for example, value = “2”, “3” applies to the vessels number 2 and 3) or the whole “Class” of vessels (all vessels in the project regardless of their number).
Is Secondary (NX) Is Principal (Cable Router) Enables the option to specify Principal / Secondary segments.
