Generate / Simulate Production Technical Variations Dialog Box

This dialog box is titled Generate Production Technical Variations or Simulate Production Technical Variations depending on the action that you used to open it. The labels of the controls on the dialog box are named accordingly.

To access Generate Production Technical Variations: Ensure one or more valid Production Module folders are selected in the Production Module Browser tab, and then use one of the following:

  • Select the action on the Automate > Modules ribbon.

  • Right-click and select Modular > Generate Production Technical Variations.

  • Press Space Bar and enter Generate Production Technical Variations.

To access Simulate Production Technical Variations: Ensure one or more valid Production Module folders are selected in the Production Module Browser tab, and then use one of the following

  • Right-click and select Modular > Simulate Production Technical Variations.

  • Alternatively select the Simulate Production Technical Variants action from the Automate > Modules ribbon.

Used to simulate or generate all of the possible variants of candidate production modules based on the functional module codes assigned to the input wiring.

Objects

Object Description
Code Codes of the selected Production Modules.
Combination Name Displays the name of the selected combination. You can specify a new name for the combination by double-clicking the cell and editing the name.
PM Tech Code Prefix You can specify the prefix for each technical variant module code. By default, technical codes are automatically created using the following convention PMPrefeix+PMCODE+n, for example, where the Combination Name is PM1 and the Tech Code Prefix is VPM, technical codes are created as follows, VPM-PM1-01, VPM-PM1-02, and so on.
FM Tech Code Prefix You can specify the prefix for each single function technical variant module code. By default, technical codes are automatically created using the following convention: FMPrefix+PMCODE+”-”+FMCODE, for example, where the prefix is “VSF-”, the production module code is “PMC14”, and the functional module code is “FM1”, the technical code will be “VSF-PMC14-FM1”. Where objects are not assigned to an FM code, or are assigned to one or more technical codes, then the naming convention used for the production variant code is FMPrefix+PMCODE, for example “VSF-PMC14”.
Status Displays a warning message if generation is not possible for a row as follows: Code contains objects with technical codes Code contains no wires Code contains no objects If generation is possible for the row, the OK icon () displays.
Module Code / Derivative Select to configure the variation generation process to use Module Code or Derivatives. Module Code based variation generation uses function codes and relationships to drive the variation. Derivative based variation generation uses option expressions on the wires to determine which derivatives are applicable to each variant. See also Variant Generation by Derivative.
Generate / Simulate Production Technical Variations for PM codes Generates technical variant production modules for the selected PM codes.
Generate / Simulate Production Technical Variations for single function Generates single function technical variant production module codes for the selected PM codes. Only selectable if Module Code is selected.
Generate / Simulate nested variant codes If you are generating technical variant codes for a nested PM code, this option gives you control over whether technical variant codes will be generated for all levels of the nested PM code, or only on the top level.
Single / Hierarchical Only selectable if Generate nested variant codes is selected. If Single is selected, each level of the nested PM code will be considered as individual codes. Only the components assigned to that level will be considered, including any objects not assigned to an FM code or assigned to one or more technical codes. If Hierarchical is selected, each level of the nested PM code will be considered along with the levels below it. The components assigned to that level and the components assigned to the levels below it will be considered, together with any objects not assigned to an FM code or assigned to one or more technical codes.
OK This button is enabled if one or more of the displayed codes has a Status of OK.
