Splice Cost Calculation

Methods

The cost of the splice is determined based on each of the calculated candidate positions. There are two methods used for calculating the splice cost:

Wire Length Method

This method does not include wire CSA in the positioning calculation.

The algorithm calculates the length of each wire in a splice from its end point to the Candidate Position. The wire lengths of each wire in the splice are added together to give the total length of wire that would be used if the splice was to be placed at the candidate position.

Wire CSA Method

This method does include wire CSA in the positioning calculation.

The algorithm calculates the length of each wire in a splice from its end point to the Candidate Position and multiplies it by its CSA value. The values of each wire in the splice are added together to give a total value of wire that would be used if the splice was to be placed at the candidate position.
