Dimensions
Adding a Standard Style
Dimension
You can place a standard dimension to indicate the distance between two node components/symbol datums/dimension nodes. You can use standard dimensions on full and non-full scale diagrams.
Restrictions and Limitations
You cannot select a symbol datum as a dimension reference point on a full scale diagram. See Standard Dimensions for information on types of node that are valid for you to use with standard dimensions.
The Dimension Length Calculation Methods topic details how the dimension distances are calculated for all valid combinations of diagram type and dimension point.
All steps are applicable to full and non-full scale diagrams except where noted.
Procedure
Press Space Bar and enter Standard Dimension, or press D. The cursor changes to .
Hover the cursor over the first node or datum to which you want to add the dimension from. The cursor changes to and the node is highlighted.
Click to select the node.
Using the same method, select the node or datum that you want to add the dimension to.Note If the diagram is non-full scale and one of the selected points is a symbol datum, you are prompted to manually enter the distance because the system cannot automatically calculate distances to objects that are not associated with a node. You can double-click the dimension value on the diagram and enter a different value, if required.
Results
The standard dimension indicator is placed on the diagram—a single line, parallel to the bundle, joining two perpendicular lines anchored at the selected nodes. The distance between the selected nodes is displayed.
Dimensions are updated dynamically whenever bundle lengths between the two selected nodes are modified.
Note
You can right-click the dimension and select Reference, Standard, or External Style, to toggle between different dimension types.
If one of the standard dimension points is a symbol datum, you cannot change the standard dimension style.
The system displays the reason in the Output window, for example, Standard Dimension between datum on N1 and N9 can`t be toggled to Reference Style. Symbol datum points are not supported by Reference Style.
