Define Rules and Preferences

Dialog Box

To access: Select a cable in the Search pane or in the Submit Cables for Auto Routing dialog box, and then click the Rules and Preferences icon () in the Action pane.

Used to add routing rules to individual cables to restrict routes or force cables through specific nodes, segments, or zones. You can select the Preferences options to override or ignore certain rules to temporarily test routing on the nodal network.

Objects

Field Description
Cable Table Lists all the cables in the selected project. Displays columns of the routing details specified in the design applications and Capital Cable Router. Select a cable to display any applied rules and preferences on the cable.
Rules Tab Lists rules added to specific cables that you can choose to enable when Automatic routing is run. Displays columns of the routing details applicable to each rule and whether the rule is enabled to impact Automatic routing. You can add or remove rules, confirm that the rule is valid, and specify the order that the rule is invoked
Priority Select or enter a number to determine the order the rule is invoked when Automatic routing is run. Lower numbers are calculated first.
Rule Select the type of rule to enable from the list of available rules configured in Capital Cable Router Admin: Required Node (default) — Cable must be routed through this node. Prohibited Node — Cable must not be routed through this node. Required Segment — Cable must be routed through this segment. Prohibited Segment — Cable must not be routed through this segment. See also Routing Rules Overview.
ID Unique identifier of the node, segment, zone, or cable that the rule identifies.
Direction Enabled only for Required Segment / Named Segment rules and excludes point segments. Select From or To to change the route direction.
Zone Type Enabled only for Zone rules. Identifies the unique Zone code used to group different Areas / Compartments when Automatic routing is run.
Tier ID Enabled only for Node / Segment rules. Displays the Tier ID of segments connected to nodes (multi-tiers only).
Option Displays the multi-tiers options. Select All Tiers (default) or Same Tier (Cable rules only).
Enabled Identifies the status of the rule which determines if the rule is applied: Active (default) — Rule is used when Automatic routing is run. Pending — Only available for Required Zone Type rules to ensure that all zones are valid for cable routes which traverse more than one zone. Ignore — The rule is deactivated. Depending on your user role, you can override this status using the “Allow Routing Rules to be Disabled” project preference on the Routing Tab in Capital Cable Router Admin. Caution If you modify rules, such as change priority or direction while simultaneously changing the Enabled status, the modifications will be lost. You must ensure that modifications to rules and changes to the Enabled status are saved in separate actions.
Prioritize () Applicable to the Required Node, Required Segment, and Named Segment rules only. Click to set the priority based on the Auto-Route X,Y,Z coordinates to all applicable rules.
Validate () Click to confirm that the rule is valid.
Add Rule () Click to add a default Required Node rule to the bottom of the table.
Remove Rule () Click to remove a selected rule from the table.
Save Click to save the rules and preferences applied to the selected cable. Note If you select another cable without saving, your changes will be lost. Siemens recommends that you save your changes regularly.
Close Click to close the dialog box without saving your changes.
Preferences Tab Displays the preferences used to determine how the routing rule applies to the cable.
Fill Threshold Specify a percentage value to override the defined fill threshold to relax or restrict the available fill amount on routed segments.
Route Comparison Threshold Specify a percentage value to override the defined comparison threshold to relax or restrict the multiple route acceptance amount. Enter 0 (zero) to deactivate or enter a value to auto-accept routes provided no others are shorter in length than the specified threshold.
Auto accept Route Select to automatically accept route.
Ignore Minimum Bend Radius Select to ignore bend radius checks.
Ignore Prohibited Nodes/Segments Select to ignore prohibited node or segment routing rules.
Ignore Isolated Cable Rule Select to include cables that cannot be routed with any other cable.
Allow Partial Route Select to accept partial routes.
Ignore Blocked Segments Select to ignore blocked segment checks.
Ignore Cable Segregation Select to ignore segregation checks.
Ignore Min/Max Route Lengths Select to ignore minimum or maximum route lengths.
Ignore Hot Codes Select to ignore hot code checks.
Ignore Required Nodes and Segments Select to ignore required node or segment routing rules.
Ignore Zone Rules Select to ignore zone routing rules.
Save Click to save the rules and preferences applied to the selected cable. Note If you select another cable without saving, your changes will be lost. Siemens recommends that you save your changes regularly.
Reset Click to restore the rules and preferences to the project default settings.
Close Click to close the dialog box without saving your changes.
