Adding a Single Line

You can add a new single line between any grid point on a diagram, but typically, the purpose of single lines is to create cables between any number of devices.

If you attach a single line to an existing single line (SL1), a branch connection is made automatically, and the added segments become part of the existing single line. The additional device connections are listed under the SL1 node in the Design Browser.

You can also connect single lines to symbols representing devices on the diagram and preserve the connection if you Convert a Symbol to a Parameterized Object.

Procedure

  1. To activate the action:

Press the space bar and enter Single Line.

           Press E.

  2. Determine the action you want to take:

                 If you want to...

                 Do the following...

Place a single line object on the diagram.

Click a grid point to place the start point of the single
                       line.

Drag the single line to define the segment.

                     Tip
You can continually click and drag the single line to
                         define more than one segment.

Double‑click a grid point to place the end point of the
                       single line.

A new single line entry is added under the Single Lines
                       node in the Design Browser.

Connect a single line between two devices.

Click the boundary box of an existing device to create
the start point (End1 on the Connections tab).

Double-click the second device to connect to the end
point (End2 on the Connections tab).

A new single line entry and the device connections are
added under the Single Lines node in the Design Browser and on the
Connections tab in the Properties dialog box.

                     Note
You can only connect to two devices at the start and
end points of the single line. If you create segments that snap to the
boundary box of an additional device, the single line is not connected
to it. You must create the initial single line between two devices and
then branch the single line to create a connection to any additional
                         devices.

Create a single line branch connection to additional
                   devices.

                     Click the existing single line.

(Optional) Create segments to define the route of the
                       single line.

Click the boundary box of the new device.

A new segment is added to the existing single line and
the added device connection is displayed in the Design Browser and on the
                       Connections tab.

Add a single line from multicore part numbers listed in the
                   Parts Browser.

                     Click the Parts
tab to access the Parts Browser.

In the search fields at the top of the browser, select a
part number type from the dropdown list and type the library part number
of the multicore you require in the text box. Alternatively, click the
                         Search parts using criteria
                         specified button () to
display a list of parts matching your search criteria.

                     Tip
You can use the Filter to reduce the number of parts
that are displayed when you search.

Right‑click the part number and select Create Single Line.

Repeat the steps in the first row of this table to place
the single line object on the diagram.

The multicore library part values are pre‑populated in
the details of the single line.
