Using Diagrams

There are various ways you can open, create, edit, and delete a diagram for an existing logical design. You can also create a diagram at the same time as creating the design to which it belongs.

Procedure

Determine the action you want to take:

If you want to...	Do the following:
Create a diagram	In the Project Browser, navigate to the design revision: Select the design revision. Press the space bar and enter New Diagram. Right-click the design revision and select New Diagram. The New Logical Diagram Dialog Box is displayed. Enter a Name for the diagram. Select the Style Set to associate with the diagram. Note Style sets control how data is displayed on a diagram, as well as offering configuration options for the behavior of the diagram itself. See “Style Sets” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide for details of how to create and maintain style sets. Click OK. The diagram is created and appears in the Project Browser as a sub-node of the design revision. Note You can create multiple diagrams for each logical design revision. Open a diagram	Navigate to the diagram in the Project Browser. Double-click the diagram. Right-click the diagram and select Open. Note To improve project performance, referenced designs for shared objects load on‑demand (specifically when the shared object is accessed on a diagram) rather than during initial project startup. When opening a diagram for the first time that contains shared objects referencing multiple designs, you may experience a brief increase in load time while these designs are loaded.
Open a diagram as read‑only	You can open a diagram in Read‑Only mode to permit other users to open it with read-write access. Navigate to the diagram in the Project Browser. Right-click the diagram and select Open (Read Only). The diagram opens as read-only. The diagram name is appended with “(Read Only)” in the Diagram window. Note If you are not using the multi-user access functionality: Read-Write / Read-Only Access mode is available at the design revision level, not at the diagram level. You cannot open two diagrams from the same design revision in different access modes. If you have opened a diagram in Read‑Write mode and then open another diagram from the same design revision, it will open in Read‑Write mode. If you have opened a diagram in Read‑Only mode and then open another diagram from the same design revision in Read‑Write mode, the diagram that was open in Read‑Only mode will also become editable. Edit a diagram’s attributes / properties	Navigate to the diagram in the Project Browser. Right-click the diagram and select Edit. The Edit Diagram Dialog Box is displayed. Edit the attributes and properties as required. Click OK.
Close a diagram	To close a diagram: Click the Close button () in the Diagram window tab, or if you are not in Tabbed mode, click the Close button () in the top-right corner of the Diagram window. Navigate to the diagram in the Project Browser. Right-click the diagram and select Close. If other diagrams in the same design revision are open, the diagram is closed but any unsaved modifications are not saved until you perform one of the following action: Press Space Bar and enter Save. Press Ctrl+S. Close the last open diagram for the design revision and click Save & Close when prompted to save any design modifications. Note You can close any opened diagram(s) via diagram tabs shown below the currently visible diagram. Delete a diagram	Navigate to the diagram in the Project Browser. Right‑click the diagram and select Delete. The Confirm Delete message box is displayed. Click Delete to delete the diagram. The diagram is deleted.
