Preserving Changes Made to Derivative and Module Diagrams
You can make layout changes to derivative and module diagrams and choose to preserve them so that design changes, propagated from the parent during subsequent runs of composite / modular breakdown, are updated without modifying your (changed) layouts.
Layout changes can include moving bundles, adding arcs, rotating tables, moving or adding decorations, configuring Graphical Offsets, and adding build notes. See “Restrictions and Limitations”.
The first time the layout of a derivative or module diagram is manually edited or embellished and saved, the diagram automatically becomes protected and the changes will not be overwritten when composite / modular breakdown is rerun on the harness. You can override this behavior using the “Ignore Diagram Protection” setting when you run Composite Breakdown or Modular Breakdown.
A protected diagram is indicated by its icon changing to, , in the Harness Design browser. Note the pencil icon in the top right corner. You can hover the cursor over this icon to display the protection status in a tooltip. The Protect Diagram Edits check box on the Edit Harness Diagram Dialog Box also becomes automatically selected. The diagram can be manually unprotected by clearing the box.
Restrictions and Limitations When Re-Running Composite Breakdown
There are some changes that you can make to the derivative or module that will not be preserved on re-running composite breakdown:
Where you have changed a bundle end node name or you have intersected a bundle on the derivative or module, the objects at these changed nodes will not be preserved. This is because any transformed decorations on the derivative or module might not look as intended in the new structure. In this case, the styling should represent how it looks on the composite.
Where a component's part number on the derivative or module is different, (for instance as the result of a design change on the composite), these edits will not be preserved, this is because it is likely that the new part number will have different decorations.
When objects have been re-styled the derivative or module, for example a border has been updated or apply style has been run on a diagram or tables.
Transformations to secondary representations on the derivative or module, such as additional connector views, are not preserved. This is because when objects are edited or updated, secondary representations are regenerated and decorations that are grid constrained would be re-laid out.
Derivative or module diagrams that have not been created from the composite will not have edits protected and will be removed.
