Adding a Harness Connector or Device Connector Footprint to a Device

You can add (define) a harness or device connector footprint for an existing device. Footprints enable you to map device pins to a connector's cavities.

Tip: Capital Devices offers spreadsheet-like capabilities where you can copy (using Ctrl, C) a whole row and paste it (using Ctrl, V) elsewhere in the Footprint table. Multiple rows can be selected by holding down the Shift key. You can also select cells and drag them vertically to fill adjacent cells with the same values.

Procedure

1. Select the device for which you wish to add either a harness or device connector footprint from the Component Device List window and click the edit icon to access the edit mode. The Edit Device dialog box is displayed.
2. Click the > symbol in the Footprints frame to expand the fields.
3. Click the icon to add a new footprint to the footprint list.
4. Specify whether you are adding a harness connector footprint or a device connector footprint in the Footprint Type field.
5. Enter a name for the footprint or click V in the field to display a list of all available footprints for selection. The icon prior to the name indicates that the footprint is a harness connector footprint or device connector footprint.
6. Click the View / Select Connector icon to display details for all connectors in the component library to enable you to select the required connector for the footprint.
7. Click the connector to add its footprint to the Connector table (the table in the middle of the section); its header displays the footprint name and either a harness connector icon or device connector icon depending on its type.
8. Edit the connector name as required.
9. Double-click the Part Number cell and either manually enter a connector part number or click the ellipsis (...) button to select a part number; cavities from the connector are automatically mapped to device pins.
10. Repeat steps 6-9 for each connector to be added to the footprint.
11. Click the icon again to assign the selected connector.
12. Click the save icon to save your updates. The footprint(s) specified are added to the device.
