Set Layer Order Dialog Box

To access: From the Design browser or the diagram, select a component that is part of a stack of component graphics, and then right-click and select Set Layer Order.

Used to manually assign and edit Layer attributes to modify the order of components in a stack, or automatically solve the layer order to match the component graphics on the diagram.

The dialog box lists all the components in the stack at the selected component node, or multiple stacks if any of the components in the stack overlap other component graphics.

Note

You cannot open the dialog box from multi-location components on the diagram if the graphic is a symbol placed as graphics. See also “Adding a Symbol to a Diagram as Graphics” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions.

Objects

Object	Description
Type	Description of the component type. An icon for each component type is displayed to the left of the description field on each row. Read‑only.
Name	The unique label of the component specified in the design. Read-only.
Part Number	The library part number assigned to the component. Read-only.
Layer	Specifies the order of the component relative to other components with layer attributes at the same location on the bundle. Lower numbers indicate that the component is nearer the bundle wires. New layers are given numbers rounded to multiples of 10 by default; these can be overwritten. Note It is recommended that sufficient interval is left between layers for you to insert subsequent layers without renumbering. You can give multiple objects the same layer number, or specify 0 to not consider the order of the component. Optional.
Solve	Enabled if the Set Layer Order action identifies a warning () of an invalid order matching of the component graphics and the layer attributes. Note The Solve button cannot renumber components that display an error ( ). The component graphics of these components must be edited on the diagram to resolve any conflict. Click to automatically renumber the Layer attributes of the components stacked at the selected component node to match the layer order of the component graphics on the diagram. The components are reordered in the list with the largest components at the top to the smallest components at the bottom. The layer numbers are preserved, where possible, with a priority given to the insulation layer number to avoid layer conflicts in the design beyond the selected nodes. Optional.
Zoom to object	Select to zoom to the location of the component node on the diagram when you select each row in the dialog box. Optional.

Usage Notes

Select each row to cross-highlight the component on the diagram.
Click each column header to order the rows alphanumerically. You can also click the ellipsis above the component type icons to order the rows alphanumerically by type.
If you edit the Layer values, the components in the list are reordered, and the component graphics on the diagram are updated when you click OK, to represent the layer order.
For bundle insulation with an insulation code specified, the graphical and layer order is determined by the code. A warning is displayed if the layer order conflicts with the insulation code. If you change the Layer value and it conflicts with the insulation code, the warning message is updated to indicate that the code will be removed from the insulation when the change is applied.
If the action identifies an invalid order matching of the component graphics and the layer attributes, a Warning icon () is displayed to the left of the Type column. You can edit the Layer values in the dialog box to resolve the conflict, or click the Solve button to automatically renumber the layers to match the component graphics on the diagram.
If the action identifies a conflict between two or more component graphics that cannot be solved by order matching the layer attributes, an Error icon () is displayed to the left of the Type column. You can continue to solve warnings on components but you must edit the component graphics on the diagram to resolve any errors. See also “Order Matching Error” in DRC Error Messages.
Hover the cursor over the Warning and Error icons to display a tooltip that identifies the node locations where issues have been detected.
