Tube Part Number Selection Rules

The harness processing tube part selection process uses sets of rules to assign part numbers to Selected Tubes, Selected Cut-back Tubes, or Selected Pulled-back Tubes.

You can run part selection using the standalone “Select Tube parts” action or by running full harness engineering as part of the harness processing action.

The rules used differ for tubes that are shrinkable or non-shrinkable (see the Shrinkable attribute in the Add or Edit Insulation Layer Dialog Box).

Note

In the following rules, the insulated bundle diameter (“Width with Insulations” bundle attribute) is calculated as follows:

  • For shrinkable tubes — Wire bundle diameter
  • (2 x shrink tube thickness). Tube Factor adjustments do not apply to shrinkable tubes.
  • For non-shrinkable tubes — Bore size + (2 x tube thickness).

Shrinkable Tubes

Where the selected tube is a shrinkable tube:

  • The processing searches for a tube part number that has a “Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter / Max. Allowed Bundle Diameter” range defined. The “Max. Allowed Bundle Diameter” value must be bigger than the bundle diameter (no factor applied) and the “Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter” value must be smaller than the bundle diameter.

  • If the process finds more than one part with the required range, it selects the tube with the smallest bore size.

  • If the process cannot find a part with both a “Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter” and “Max. Allowed Bundle Diameter” range defined (“Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter” must always be defined for shrinkable tubes), it uses a process based on the bore size. The selected tube should have a bore size bigger than the bundle diameter and a “Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter” value smaller than the bundle diameter. If no tube is found, a warning is given in the design log file or console.

Non-Shrinkable

Tubes

Where the selected tube requested is NOT a shrinkable tube:

  • The processing searches for a tube part number that has a “Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter / Max. Allowed Bundle Diameter” range defined. The “Max. Allowed Bundle Diameter” value must be bigger than the bundle diameter + tube factor applied, and the “Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter” value must be smaller than the bundle diameter
  • tube factor applied.
  • If the process finds more than one part with the required range, it selects the tube with the smallest bore size.

  • If the process can not find a part with a “Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter and Max. Allowed Bundle Diameter” range defined, it uses a process based on the bore size. In this case the selected tube should have a bore size bigger than the bundle diameter + tube factor applied If no tube is found, a warning is given in the design log file or console.

Rules

in Detail

The following rules are broken down further:

  • BS — Bundle Size

  • MIN — Min. Allowed Bundle Diameter (See Add or Edit Insulation Layer Dialog Box

  • MAX — Max. Allowed Bundle Diameter

  • SHRINKABLE — The tube has the shrinkable set.

The selection process runs the rules in the following order:

  1. Check by MIN and MAX where both have Values Defined - APPLICABLE TO ALL TUBES CopyMIN <= BS AND MAX >= BS AND MIN > 0 AND MAX > 0If more than one part is assignable, select the tube with smallest BORE_SIZE. If two part numbers with same BORE_SIZE found, select by smallest MAX. If two with same MAX, select the first alphanumeric part number.

  2. Check by MIN (where MIN is defined and MAX is not defined) - APPLICABLE TO ALL TUBES CopyMIN <= BS AND MIN > 0 AND MAX = 0 AND BORE_SIZE >= BSIf more than one part is assignable, select the tube with smallest BORE_SIZE. If two part numbers with the same BORE_SIZE found, select the first alphanumeric part number.

  3. Check by MAX (where MIN is not defined and MAX is defined - APPLICABLE ONLY TO NONSHRINKABLE TUBES CopyBORE_SIZE >= BS AND MAX > 0 AND MIN = 0 AND MAX >= BSIf more than one part is assignable, select the tube with smallest BORE_SIZE. If two with same BORE_SIZE found, select by smallest MAX. If two with same MAX found, select the first alphanumeric part number.

  4. MIN and MAX are zero: - APPLICABLE ONLY TO NON-SHRINKABLE TUBES CopyBORE_SIZE >= BS AND MIN = 0 AND MAX = 0If more than one part is assignable, select the tube with smallest BORE_SIZE. If two with same BORE_SIZE found, select the first alphanumeric part number.
