Adding Option Expressions On ICDs

Capital Devices offers functionality allowing you to easily define the correct options on an ICD and validate them early in the design process. This helps avoid errors as you select from the approved list of option expressions for your ICD.

Options and variant options can be created at project level from design applications. An option is a code representing a feature or capability in a vehicle. Options are used in expressions to convey the conditional inclusion of an object in a particular vehicle configuration. For full information on the creation, management and use of Option Expressions see Options and Option Relationships in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.

Prerequisites

The ICD must have only one project associated with it.

Note: If you add more than one applicable project or have no applicable projects, then the option expression will no longer be validated.

Procedure

  1. Follow the steps described in Creating an Interface Control Document (ICD) to create a new ICD.
  2. Options can be added to the ICD either by entering them directly in the Option Expression field, or by clicking the button to access the Edit Option Expression dialog box, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1. Edit Option Expression Dialog Box (figure not reproduced)

  1. If using the Option Expression dialog, select from the options listed to build and validate your option expression. The only options listed for selection are those assigned to the applicable project. The interface offers exactly the same operators, functionality and validation as in Capital, for further information see Options and Option Relationships in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.
  2. As you construct the option expression by double clicking the available options and operators, it is also validated at the same time. Incorrect entries are highlighted in red text and must be corrected before proceeding.
  3. Once you have built the option expression click OK to save it to the form.

The option expression is then associated with the ICD and will propagate to the ICD in Capital Logic.
