Adding a Variant Wire

You can manually create a wire that exists only in specific derivatives.

Note

When a variant position connector is created, variant wires are created automatically for termination at the variant cavities.

If a new wire is added to a primary connector, wires are not created for its variant positions until the connectors are synchronized; however, you can create variant wires manually using the following steps. See also Adding a Variant Position Connector.

Procedure

  1. Press Space Bar and enter Wires. The Edit Wires Dialog Box is displayed.

  2. Click the New button.

  3. On the General tab, enter a Name for the wire (this can be the same as the wire of which you are creating a variant).

  4. Either:Assign a wire part from the library, following the steps detailed in Adding a Wire with an Associated Library Part

Enter the required Part Details, following the steps detailed in Adding a Wire Without an Associated Library Part

  1. Specify an Option expression to define in which derivatives the variant wire will exist.

  2. Click OK.

Results

  • The variant wire is added to the Wires list on the left of the dialog box, and to the Harness Design Browser.
