Selecting the Electrical Project from Capital

After 3D Electrical Design has been launched in the MCAD environment, you need to select the Capital electrical project that you want to use. The electrical project provides the context that associates the mechanical content (the MCAD 3D harness content) with the wiring connectivity (Capital designs).

Prerequisites

• The 3D Electrical Design must be configured and have been launched in the Designcenter environment. See Configuration and Starting of 3D Electrical Design in Designcenter NX for details.

Procedure

1. Ensure the Capital Navigator window is active.

2. Do one of the following:

          Click Select Project in the
            Capital Navigator window.
   
        
   
        
          If you are in the Designcenter NX environment, click the Project
             command on
            the ribbon bar. 
   
        
   
        
          If you are in the CATIA V5 environment, click the Change
              Project
             command on the Capital
            Workbench.
   
        
   
      
   
    
    The Select Electrical Project Dialog Box
      displays.
   

3. Select the electrical project from capital that you want to use, and click OK.

Results

In the Designcenter NX environment, the Capital navigator opens.

In the Designcenter NX and CATIA V5 environments, the Design Browser and Wiring Browser display in the Capital navigator window.

If you are opening an electrical project for the first time in 3D Electrical Design, a default 3D electrical context is created as a 3D enabled Capital Wiring Integrator design. See Project Based 3D Electrical Context for an overview of the 3D electrical context concept.

If the electrical project has been opened before, any pre-existing 3D electrical context is opened.

Note

If the project is being edited by another user already, a message "3D electrical context is locked" is displayed. It tells you the other user who has a lock on it. You can choose to open the project in read-only mode. This allows you to view the data, but not edit it. For example, you can open and inspect component properties, and navigate the 3D model.

In the Design Browser in the Capital navigator window, the project name has (Read Only) after it when you are in read-only mode.
