Types When Generating Diagrams
When using Capital Schematic Generator for Functional Designs to generate diagrams, you use the Layout Styling tab to specify the default styling for the layout of the diagrams. Alongside other settings, you select the type of layout you want to use.

Basic Horizontal

- Functions are placed according to the following rules: Functions with a matched prototype are placed first in the same location as their prototype.
The largest function (determined by placed pin count) is placed next. If there are no functions already placed, it is placed in the bottom left corner of the diagram, otherwise it is placed in the first empty space above the prototypes at an X position twice the function width specified on the Layout Styling tab.
Functions directly connected to the largest function are placed next, starting at the bottom right of the diagram (or the bottom edge of the largest function if there are no prototypes placed) and on the right-hand side of the diagram.
Functions are stacked on the right edge until the vertical space taken by the largest function is used up.
Functions are then placed sequentially left and right up the diagram using the Layout Styling tab settings to determine the spacing between functions and the graphical width of the function in the pin grid.
- Ports are placed according to the following rules: Ports are placed on the outside of the function facing away from the middle if they have no signal connected or all connected signals only have a single end on the diagram.
Ports are placed on the inside of the function facing the center in cases where at least one connected signal connects to another port on the diagram.
Placement of the ports starts one pin grid from the bottom of a function.
Spacing of the ports on the pin grid of a function will be determined by the Layout Styling tab settings.
Largest Function Led Vertical Layout
Caution
This layout type does not support prototypes.

The largest function is identified by the number of visible pins.
That function is placed at the top of the diagram with a height of 20 pin grids.
Port placement is determined by connected signals: If a port has no connected signals, or all its signals are not connected to other ports on this diagram, then the port is placed at the top of the function.
If a port is connected to at least one signal that is also connected to another port on the diagram, then it is placed at the bottom of the function.
- All other functions are placed at the bottom of the diagram with ports following the reverse of the rules above.
Direction Based Layout
Caution
This layout type does not support prototypes.
Functions are placed based on the direction of the ports.
All functions that have only ‘Out’ ports are placed on the left-hand side of the diagram.
All functions that have only ‘In’ ports are placed on the right-hand side of the diagram.
All other functions are placed in the middle of the diagram.
Ports on the middle functions are placed on the left or right of a function depending on the direction.
Bi-directional ports are placed on the left of a function.
