Other Components

Using Other Components

You can place an other component on a harness diagram (with or without a part number). Once added, you can edit the attributes or properties move and delete the component.

Procedure

Determine the action you want to take:

If you want to...	Do the following...
Add an Other Component with an Associated Library Part	Press Space Bar and enter Other Component. The cursor changes to . Click to place the component. If you click a node, the component is placed, anchored at that node. If you click an empty area of the diagram, a new structure node is created at which to anchor the component. If you click a bundle, the Node Position Utility Dialog Box is displayed and a new reference node is created at which to anchor the component. You can also enable variant positioning and anchor the component at any reference node on the same bundle. See also “Variant Position Reference Nodes” in the Node Position Utility dialog box. The Add Other Component Dialog Box is displayed. Click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the Library Part field. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a component from the library. The associated component will be displayed in the Library Part field. Note If you press Ctrl when you click to place the component, the Add Other Component dialog box is not displayed. Click OK to place the component on the diagram. The following component entities are displayed: The component part number. Any Name assigned to the component. Any symbol associated with the component. Note The component entities listed comprise the default offering as dictated by the style set shipped with Capital Harness Designer / Modular. You can modify the entities displayed and the appearance of those entities. See also the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide. The component is added to the Harness Design Browser.
Add an Other Component without an Associated Library Part	Press Space Bar and enter Other Component. The cursor changes to . Click to place the component. Edit an Other Component	Select the component. Either: Press Space Bar and enter Edit. Right-click the selected entity and select Edit Other Component. Double-click the component. The Edit Other Component Dialog Box is displayed. Modify the attributes or properties. Click OK.
Move an Other Component	Right-click one of the following entities related to the component and select Move Other Component: Node at which the component is placed. Component symbol. The cursor changes to . Place the component at the new location If you click a node, the component is placed, anchored at that node. If you hover the cursor over a bundle, a tooltip displays the distance between the cursor position and the adjacent node in the direction of the start of the bundle. Click to place the component. The Node Position Utility Dialog Box is displayed to fine-tune the position of the reference node created to anchor the component to the bundle.
Delete an Other Component	Select the component. Either: Press Space Bar and enter Delete. Right-click the selected entity and select Delete. Press the Delete key. The component is removed from the design and from the Harness Design Browser.
