Using Harness Designs

You can create, edit, delete, copy, import, create, and upgrade revisions of a design.

Prerequisites

• A valid project must be open in the browser. See Using Projects.

Procedure

Determine the action you want to take:

If you want to...	Do the following...
Create a Design	Right-click the project in the Project browser and select New Harness Design. Alternatively Press Space Bar and enter New Harness Design. The New Harness Design Dialog Box displays. Enter a Name for the design. Enter a Part Number and Revision. Note The combination of part number and revision must be unique within the database, not just within the project. If the combination is not unique, both fields are displayed in red, and you will not be able to create the design until this issue is resolved. Click OK. The design is created and added to the Project browser in the following structure: A design folder is created and labeled with the design Name. The design is placed within this folder, labeled with the design Name and Revision. If you chose to create a diagram, this is created beneath the design, and is labeled with the diagram Name. If you chose to create a diagram, it is opened in the Diagram window.
Edit a Design	Navigate to the design you want to edit in the Project browser, right-click and select Edit. The Edit Harness Design Dialog Box is displayed. Make any changes required to the design attributes or properties. Click OK.
Delete a Design	Note The ability to delete a design may depend on its release level, and the enabled behaviors assigned to that release level in Capital Project Manager. Also, when working in a design application, you can only delete designs that can be authored in that application. In the Project browser, select one or more of the following: A design — The action will delete all revisions listed below the design. A design revision — The action will delete just the design revision. A design folder — The action will delete all designs, design revisions, and folders contained within the selected folder. Right-click a selected object, and choose Delete; a message asks you to confirm that you want to delete the objects. When you delete a composite design, you have the option of deleting both the composite and its derivatives or just the composite. Click Yes. If a design cannot be deleted, an error message provides details of why it cannot be deleted.

Create a Design Revision	See “Creating a Design Revision” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide.
Import a Design	Full details of how to import designs from XML files into a project, see “Importing Designs into a Project” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.
Submit and prioritize a design for upgrade	After upgrading to a newer version of Capital, the system runs an automatic data indexing process that may limit actions you can perform on designs (See “Data Indexing” in the Capital Installation and Upgrade - Additional Information Guide), if you need to work on a harness design urgently, you can submit your design to be prioritized as part of any ongoing upgrading and indexing tasks. Caution Before using this action it is recommended you contact your System Administrator to understand the status of ongoing upgrades. Navigate to the design you want to upgrade in the Project browser, right-click and select Upgrade Composite and Derivatives. An Upgrade Composite and Derivative confirmation dialog box launches. Click OK to confirm the upgrade. Note The upgrade task can be tracked in the Task tab of the Output window. Your composite and derivative designs will be submitted for upgrade and indexing with the highest queue priority. Note The menu option ‘Upgrade Composite and Derivatives’ only displays for designs that have not yet been upgraded.
