Adding a Terminal Block

You can add terminal blocks to designs.

Prerequisites

You have created a valid terminal block symbol. See “Adding a Pin to a Symbol” in the Capital Symbol Designer User Guide.
You have a valid design open.

Procedure

To select the terminal block:Press the space bar and enter Add Device from Library. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed.

Click the Parts tab to access the Parts Browser.

Tip If you intend to add multiple terminal blocks, you can select Device > Add Device from Library on the Home ribbon, and press Shift+click Add Device from Library to activate the action in repeat mode. As an alternative to adding a library part, if you have a terminal block device symbol you can double-click the required terminal block symbol in the Symbol Browser, and then skip to 4 of this procedure.

In the search fields at the top of the dialog box / browser, select a part number type from the dropdown list and type the library part number of the device you require in the text box. Alternatively, click the Search parts using criteria specified button () to display a list of parts matching your search criteria.Tip You can use the Filter to reduce the number of parts that are displayed when you search.
To create the terminal block:In the Part Selection dialog box, select the terminal block and click Insert.

In the Parts Browser, double-click the terminal block library part or right‑click it and select Create Device with symbol.

The symbol is displayed next to the cursor. Note If the “Create Device with symbol” menu option is unavailable it indicates that the device has no associated symbol.

Click the required wire to place the terminal block.The terminal block is placed, the wire splits in two and the two wires are connected to pins on the terminal block. Note When wires are connected to terminal block pins, jumpering pins (dedicated jumper device pins, configured with the Pin Type attribute set to JMPR) are avoided. See Inserting Jumpers.
Add a wire to connect the terminal block to another device.A wire connection is made to the next available regular pin on the terminal block.
Right-click the terminal block and select Manage Connections to change the pin terminations.The Manage Connections Dialog Box is displayed. You can drag and drop wires to re‑assign pin terminations. Jumpering pins are not displayed.

Examples

In this example, a terminal block is placed on WIRE103.

WIRE103 is split and WIRE107 is created.

The terminal block is created as DEV105 and the wires are automatically connected to the pins.

In the following figure, a wire is added to connect the terminal block to DEV102. WIRE108 is created and automatically connected to PIN3 on the terminal block.
