Diagram Objects
This section provides an overview of the key diagram objects - devices, connectors, and conductors. It also includes an overview of multicores, overbraids and highways.
Design Wide Objects
A design wide object is a non-shared connectivity object that can have multiple, or even no, instances across multiple diagrams in a Capital E/E Publisher design. All pins on a design wide object are unrestricted.
Assemblies
An assembly is a collection of objects that you can use as a single entity. It is treated as a Design Wide Object. It can contain wires, shields, nets, devices, connectors, conductor groups, inline plugs and inline jacks, and other assemblies.
Conductors
A conductor is a connection between two or more pins in a design:
A wire is a conductor with two endpoints
A net is a conductor that connects pins to the same electrical potential
A shieldtermination is a conductor that goes from the multicore indicator to a termination
Devices and Connectors
A device is an object into which connectors and conductors can plug. Capital E/E Publisher does not recognize a device as having a particular function.
A connector acts as an interface object between a conductor, and a device, though a conductor can also plug directly into a device.
Ground Devices
Ground devices are used in Capital E/E Publisher designs. They can have footprints, and can have connectors mated to them. A ground device can have any number of pins.
Overbraids and Multicores
An overbraid is a sheath applied to the outside of a harness, primarily to address electrical noise.
A multicore cable is a single cable comprising multiple wires. If it is a coax or oval multicore, it has a shield that can be grounded with a shield terminator.
A multicore cannot contain an overbraid, but an overbraid can contain other overbraids and multicores.
