Harness Connectors Using a Footprint

You can use the Generate Harness Connectors action to generate harness connectors on a device with a library part that has a harness connector footprint defined.

Prerequisites

You have added a device with a library part that has a harness connector footprint to a diagram and you have placed pins on the device. Adding a Device From Capital Component Manager as a Parameterized Device.

Note

You cannot use a footprint to map a connector to a stud pin. Instead, use a housing definition to create the mapping. See Generating Harness Connectors Using a Housing.

Procedure

To add harness connectors:

Select the device, press the space bar and enter Generate Connectors.
Right-click the device and select Generate Harness Connectors.

Results

The harness connectors are added around the pins of the device and the pins on the harness connectors are mated to the corresponding pins on the device.
If you had already connected conductors to pins on the device they are moved so they are connected to the pins on the connector instead.

Note

If you generate harness connectors for a device, and then add more pins to the device and generate harness connectors again, the existing harness connector graphics extend to include the new pins.

If the design abstraction assigned to the design has the “Auto create harness connectors” option selected, harness connectors are generated automatically when you add a device with a library part definition that has a harness connector footprint.
