Adding Ports to an Object Instance
You can add ports to a function.
Procedure
- Select the object in the Diagram Window or in the Design Browser Window and either:Right-click on it and select Add Port; the Place Ports Dialog is displayed where you select whether you want to add existing ports or create a new one. You can select multiple existing ports. Press SHIFT when selecting Add Port to add multiple new ports.
Press Space Bar and enter Port; the Place Ports dialog is displayed where you select whether you want to add existing ports or create a new one. You can select multiple existing ports. Note If the project preference “Disallow port duplication within a design” is set, existing ports will not be displayed in the Place Ports dialog, as creation of duplicate port instances will be prohibited. To allow the placement of duplicate ports the project preference Disallow port duplication within a design should be unset.
Press SHIFT when selecting the Add Port action to add multiple new ports.
Press P (to add one new port).
- In the Diagram Window, click on the points of the object where you want to add ports.As you move the cursor over the object, it changes appearance. Where a port cannot be added it looks like this:

In the case of functions, you can add a port at a grid point on an edge of the function. You can also add a port outside of the graphical representation of the function, the function stretches to include the new port.
- If adding multiple new ports, press the Esc key on your keyboard to stop.If you are using a generative flow where you will use Capital Systems Integrator to generate wiring for the design, you may want to consider the values specified for the following port attributes: Connector Group — Specifies the name of the virtual connector to which the port maps when it is placed in a slot in a Capital Systems Integrator design.
Connector Cavity — Specifies the name of the connector cavity to which the port maps when it is placed in a slot in a Capital Systems Integrator design. Normally, the port will map to a cavity with a name equivalent to the value of this attribute. However, a connector part may restrict the matching of the name.
Note These attributes are read-only if the port is from a footprint.
