Change Policies

The change policies determine which data at the component group, or attribute and property level from the master source design, is allowed to change the target harness design during synchronization.

Note

Synchronization is a one-way process moving data into Capital Harness Designer. No changes made in Capital Harness Designer are replicated in your source Capital Logic Designer, Capital Systems Integrator, or Capital Wiring Integrator designs.

You can specify the behavior of each change policy using the Synchronize Harness Designs dialog box.

Create — Enables Capital Harness Designer to create new components, attributes, or properties in the incoming data during synchronization. Clearing this option means objects authored in Capital Logic Designer, Capital Systems Integrator, or Capital Wiring Integrator are ignored during synchronization.
Update — Enables components authored in Capital Logic Designer, Capital Systems Integrator, or Capital Wiring Integrator to update matching components in Capital Harness Designer. If you clear this option, incoming data does not change components on a harness design during synchronization.
Delete a change policy — Enables you to delete existing components in a harness design, which are not found in incoming data from Capital Logic Designer, Capital Systems Integrator, or Capital Wiring Integrator. If you clear this option, components are preserved in a harness design for which there is no incoming match.

Note

Components originally authored in Capital Harness Designer or Capital Harness Designer Modular are deemed master and, as a consequence, they are not deleted when synchronizing data form either Capital Logic Designer, Capital Systems Integrator, or Capital Wiring Integrator.

The following examples show ways in which you can use change policies to affect harness data during synchronization:

Use a change policy to create wiring data. Wire sizes and connectivity are authored in Capital Logic Designer, but the color of each wire is specified in Capital Harness Designer by the harness manufacturer. To prevent subsequent synchronizations of updated wiring data from overwriting the Capital Harness Designer-authored wire colors, you can clear the change policy update and delete options against the wire color attribute.
Use a change policy to temporarily prevent attributes and properties from persisting. If Capital Systems Integrator is the master source for bundle configurations, temporary changes to bundle length or placement in Capital Harness Designer should not be persisted. To do this, you select the create, update, and delete options against the bundle component group in the change policy.

Note

You can select Allow Synchronize without build lists in the Project Preferences Dialog Box, to run synchronization without using change policies or build lists, and enable everything in the target harness design to change.
