Specifying Prototype
Wiring Constraints
If you want synthesis to use prototype (template) wiring in a design, you must specify constraints that determine how it uses wiring from Capital Logic Designer designs for particular signals or multicores in specific configurations.
This video shows an example of using prototype wiring during wiring synthesis.
Note
You can use a single, composite prototype wiring design for multiple configurations. See Example of Using a Single Prototype Wiring Design for Multiple Configurations.
To add prototype wiring constraints, you can either:
Add the constraints manually to the Capital Systems Integrator design (as described in this topic).
Have the system add a constraint to the Capital Systems Integrator design when you save a visualized wiring view as a Capital Logic Designer design. See Generating a Wiring View of a Synthesized Signal or Multicore.
Prerequisites
The Capital Logic Designer wiring designs with the prototype wiring must exist. You can manually create these in Capital Logic Designer or you can save visualized wiring views (from Capital Systems Integrator) as Capital Logic Designer designs for this purpose.
You can use a wiring design as a prototype only if you have read-only access or read-write access to the design’s domain or if the design does not have a domain.
Procedure
On the Design Browser (Design tab), click the Edit Prototype Wiring () button.The Edit Prototype Wiring dialog box displays.
Click the Add a new prototype wiring constraint () button.The system adds a default prototype wiring constraint to the window: Use wiring from Design in configuration
for Signal Name = .* Edit the constraint as required:Click Design; the Choose Design dialog box displays. Select the Capital Logic Designer design whose wiring you want to use as the prototype and click OK; the constraint updates with the design name. Click
The option expression can have a maximum of 255 characters.
Click Signal and select whether the prototype wiring is used for a signal or multicore. The constraint updates accordingly. Click Name, a drop-list of attributes or properties displays. Specify an attribute or property that you want to use to identify the signal or multicore that uses this prototype wiring and click OK. The constraint updates with attribute or property name. Click =; a drop-down list of match operators displays (=, !=, <, >, <=, >=). See Editable Elements in Constraints in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide for descriptions of these. Select the operator that you want to use to match the attribute or property name to a value. The constraint updates accordingly. Click .*; a Value:String field displays. Enter the value for the attribute or property and click OK. The constraint updates with the string. If the signal or multicore does not have this value, synthesis will not use the prototype for it. Repeats steps 2 onwards for each prototype wiring constraint that you want to define.
Click OK.
Results
When you run synthesis next, the system applies the constraints and use prototype wiring accordingly.
If the prototype wiring constraint covers all configurations but the wire in the prototype design does not have a prototype wiring expression that covers all configurations, the non-covered configurations are generated as if no prototype wiring constraint was specified for it. No errors are generated in this case.
If you do not have access to the wiring design’s domain, synthesis cannot use the wiring design as a prototype and a failure is reported to the Synthesis tab of the output window at the bottom of the application.
Caution
If you specify a prototype wiring constraint for a signal that applies to a specific configuration, you should specify additional prototype wiring constraints that cover all remaining configurations. For example, if you have a constraint for a signal specified as LHD (left-hand drive), you should have another for RHD (right-hand drive). Alternatively, if you have a constraint for ABS, you should have another for !ABS.
After specifying prototype wiring constraints to a design, you can run an Applied Prototype Wiring report that lists all prototype constraints that have been assigned in the currently open design. See Applied Prototypes Report.
You can also run “Invalid prototype constraint” and “Wiring does not match prototype” design rule checks to identify any prototype wiring constraints that are invalid and to identify where synthesized wiring does not match prototype wiring. Caution
If you remove a prototype constraint from a design, the system unlinks the wiring generated using the prototype from the prototype so that incremental synthesis runs re-use the existing wiring as much as possible. This behavior applies only when no prototype constraint exists for a generated wire. If a prototype constraint exists but the system cannot match a related wire to any wire in the prototype design, then an incremental synthesis run deletes the previously generated wire.
In some cases, when wire option expressions are recalculated, the system may report variant wiring generated by the prototypes as redundant. This is reported in the Synthesis tab of the Output Window at the bottom of the application.
