Bundle Configuration

Rule Based Wire Routing

You can control the wire path on a harness diagram among a number of bundles and possible paths by means of configurable constraints. These can be applied either at system, project or design level, for all bundles that satisfy the conditions set in the constraint, or just at bundle level for a selected bundle.

See also “Overview of Rules and Constraints” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.

The constraints are:

  • Route Wire Through Bundle by Attribute/Property Constraint

  • Route Wire Through Selected Nodes Constraint

  • Route Wire by Attribute/Property Constraint

Prerequisites

  • Before selecting this option you must first define wire routing constraint using either the Edit Design Properties Dialog Box or the Edit Bundle Dialog Box.

  • Bundle specific constraints override design level constraints, with the exception of “do not route” constraints will always take priority irrespective of the bundle/harness level at which they are specified.

Procedure

  1. Press Space Bar and enter Route Wires.A message is displayed informing that a large amount of design data could potentially be changed by this action.

  2. Click Route Wires to continue or Do Not Route Wires to cancel.

Results

  • The new wire paths are determined according to the defined constraint. Wires have not-through nodes added as necessary to prevent them passing through bundles that the constraint dictates as “disallowed.” The shortest wire path is always chosen, subject to the limits set by the constraint. An audit trail action is recorded.

  • Where wires have their paths determined by a constraint, the wire attribute Routed By Constraint is set to True. This attribute differentiates between wires that have their paths determined by a constraint (Routed By Constraint = True) and wires that use the shortest path or a path set manually (Routed By Constraint = False). The wire attribute Routed By Constraint is available for use in query expressions and can be added to the wire table on the diagram.

  • Wire routes can be reset to their original state by pressing Space Bar and entering Clear Wire Route. This clears all selected wire routes and removes any through nodes/not-through nodes that may have been added to the selected wires. A message is displayed detailing this.
